5. Re: [AUS-Tas] Civil Servant Lists [0.980771]
Hi Robyn, The Archives Office has some "blue books" which list some public servants, eg rail staff etc, but often only the more senior people are listed by name. I had a look a while back, and for example the station master may be named, but other staff just listed by numbers. The old gazettes also list some public servants, but from memory are not indexed. The early Walchs Almanacs are also a source of info on many professions etc. At 09:21 AM 1/01/02 +1100, you wrote: >Happy New Year to you all

Thanks to those Listers who replied to my recent query about Ellen HORGAN. Much appreciated. Now to James BENT. He was convicted for Life and transported to VDL on the Coromandel arriving 25 October 1838. His convict record states "convicted before and transported before" though it doesn't say when or where to. Does anyone have any ideas? He was granted Ticket of Leave 26 February 1847 and was joined by his wife Mary, 5 adult children including daughter, Sarah (25) and her husband Joseph BURROWS (25). i

Would those doing family Roll calls mind adding a little extra info. I really wish I had more time to be of use to list users but I lose interest fast if I can't be sure I'm tracking the right person or at least heading in their direction. The area or origin can be a big help if nothing else. I live in the country hence I know a lot of people and families. Come on give us whatever you can to help us help you. C Wellard

If any lister is seeking data of early families this is a marvellous site, as there are many names throughout the index and cases. I would offer my thanks to both Universities and the
