Hello Garry
Thanks you for your very helpful and informative analysis of this WOOD
family. My interest stems from the later connections to the BELLETTE family
from which my wife descends.

Level 1,
Hi all listers
just a warning on being careful on what to open. I received an email with
the following subject matter.
As I had made a request to the list I felt that this would surely be safe
but because of warnings on the list over the years I was in two minds
whether to open the attachment or not. I went into the archives and checked
to see if there was a lister named don johnston who contributed to the list.
Finding the name I thought it must be safe and opened the
attachment...only to be tol

Hello List
And just in case the word "victual" is not familiar to others (even though we talk on this list of the 1804/5 Victualling List quite frequently which is of course a list of persons receiving food or provisions; and we also refer quite often to licensed victuallers - ie publicans), the
In relatively modern times, my aunt was also recorded as an unnamed female,
simply because the official forgot the details. The family farmed a
property out of town, and the story goes that on his way into town to
register the birth, my grandfather met the postmaster (I think the local
post office was the registry agency) coming the other way. So instead of
wasting time going all the way in to town, my grandfather told the man the
details and went his way, only to find later that the postmaster had

I have also come across several unnamed births who all seemed to have survived into adulthood. There were many children in the family and the first few had names at registration but it seems the parents took a bit longer to decide on names for the later ones.

My dau-in-law is related to the Jones Family. Her maternal grandmother
is Eileen Jones now Duff and lives at Sheffield. I do not have any
information on this side of the family but my Dau-in-law says her
GGfather was S Jones. I can ask for more information if you would like
me to and I would appreciate any thing you have on the Jones.

You should subscribe to the Norfolk Island list - details can be found at
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-NORFOLK-IS.html
The period you are interested in was not operated under the same conditions
as the hell-hole of later years.
The first settlement was a little less scary than that, and family life was
a feature. It was established as the outpost to grow and supply food to the
struggling colony at Sydney.
There is a book list on this site:

Shane's message re German immigrants "for" Thomas Walker of Rhodes made me begin to wonder about the large number of German immigrants who came to the Oatlands area, I think about the same time as these.
Was there a scheme on at the time or something?

trials are of increasing length, including the longest trials in the
entire 1674-1834 period. They include several famous cases, among which
