Dear List,
I have a family member that is reported as having died in 1880 at "Ivory
Bight",
apparently near Launceston.
Does anyone have any suggestions where this place is or was? It could
be
the name of a property, or a district or town.
Thanks in advance,
- Tony Sadleir

Hello
I am interested in finding address of Wheat Chief Hotel Hobart. My parents visited there about 1948, At that time a cousin Jack & Ruby Brown was the Publican.
Also have had no success in finding the death of these people. Jack was born 1900 Eaglehawk in Victoria.
Mother Honor , father John Thomas Brown.
Any information would be gratefully received

Thanks Sue,
It has been suggested that there were two Mary Vallances, one free and one a
convict, that would certainly solve the problem neatly. But I shall visit
your site and absorb the info. Thanks for your response.
Kind regards

Just in case you weren't aware Bevelyn and Lynn... The mouth of the Mersey
river is where Devonport is situated, and where the Spirit of Tasmania 1, 2
& 3 sail from. I'm not sure about the location upstream, but I wouldn't have
thought it would be near Cradle Mountain at all. Maybe the walls though.
I searched these place name sites:

http://www.thelist.tas.gov.au/index.html
but didn't find anything with Macy in the name.

Hayley

Dear Lists,
I am doing some research on John Pascoe Faulkner. He
married Eliza Cobb, she arrived on the Maria 1 in 1818 to NSW and then
came to Hobart the same year. Her crime was child stealing. I was wondering
if there many other women convicted of this crime.

I'm also researching Dixons (Dickson) in Tasmania but I don't recognise the names you've listed. I'm looking for information on Thomas Charles Dickson, born in Tasmania about 1835, his parents were Charles Dixon and Sarah Snell. I have no idea where the family lived in Tasmania. Do these ring any bells? Thomas' birth does not seem to be listed on the BDM index or the Tasmanian Colonial Links site.

Hello Frances,
I have an explanation on the 15 children, as opposed to 8 - There were
several children that died as infants - Hart/Artie (1880-1883), Amelia
(1882-1882), Henry George (1884-1885), Unnamed (1889-1889) and Amy
(1901-1901) all died when they were all under the age of 3, so were not
mentioned in the obituary for Henry. Of the other children, I have the
following ten:
William (1878-1971)
Ada (1883-1870) - must be the Mrs S Burgess? Strange she married a Burgess -
her mothers maiden name!
Hello List,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get copy of Surgeon's Journals?
If they have been copied onto Microfilm for the AJCP can anyone tell me how
to go about getting a copy.
I am in outer SE Melbourne.
I am particularly interested in William Glen Anderson arriving Hobart in
November 1831.
Thank you
Jac
Hi Hayley,
That's a good search site you listed. I got the map out, you're right

The Walls of Jerusalem National Park and Cradle Mountain National PARK (not
near the mountain itself), not all that far from Lake Rowallan (which is a
wider part of the river).
If Bevelyn's ancestor was sent to Mersey River, she has a reasonably long
waterway to explore ... maybe more likely to be closer to Devonport, as
nearer the source may not have

I am researching convict clothing (or costume as they say in the museum
business) for VDL/Tasmania during the period 1803 - 1870s.
Some you may have convict records of your ancestors that include references
to particular types of clothing. These may include linen shirts, corduroy
trousers, bone buttons or special constable's capes aside from the usual
parti-coloured costume we are most familiar with. I am especially
interested to hear if anyone had a convict or institutional ancestor who
Hello Lee-ann
You could find that the book "Holycross: The Story of the O'Mara Family" by
Judith Borrick from Qld is able to answer some of your questions.
It is the story of the MARA / O'MARA / O'MEARA family from Tipperary IRE,
who came to VDL in 1830
It won the Lilian Watson Family History Award last year.
Lorraine.

Helen,
Mary and James Kelly came to Tas under sponsorship of
Michael Lyons of Stanley. They came from County Galway with a daughter
Bridget and sons Thomas and Martin and went to Circular Head where family
legend says Bridget worked at the Union hotel said to be owned by a relation
named Breheny. do any of theses names fit into your family?

Hi Listers,
Is there a way of finding out the age of a convict at the time he was
transported ? (apart from CON records)
I'm not sure if the person I'm looking for was a convict but there were
26 convicts with the same name and if I could eliminate some of them
before attacking the CON records it would be a great help..
TIA
Peter Arnold.
Would anybody be able to inform me where the following are buried, or at least information as to how to locate there grave sites.

Dear Listmembers,
My grandmother was Elizabeth DENTON, born on 10 Jan 1875 in Oxford, England.
She married my grandfather Walter Henry LINDSEY on 29 Apr 1903 at Paparata, South Auckland.
It is known that Elizabeth DENTON travelled first to Australia, possibly to Tasmania, about 1894 before coming on to New Zealand. She worked for a minister's family.
I would be grateful for any guidance as to passenger lists, immigration records etc. that I could access to look for her.
Thankyou,
John Johnston
Hello Pat and List Members
One of my convict ancestors, John Arnold MAWER, was sentenced whilst at
Macquarie Harbour for 'making away with the public bread entrusted to his
care as baker' - he was dismissed from his position as baker and given 25
lashes.
This same John MAWER, after receiving his CP, married and had a large family
- on the early birth certificates he was listed as labourer, then farmer,
and towards the end of his children's births, he was listed as landowner and
gentleman! He was still pr

I am seeking information on James TYDEMAN or his descendants.
James was b. 1829 in Suffolk, UK and transported to Tasmania, arriving in
1852.
On-line searches suggest he may have married Louisa DENNER in 1866, with
children Rosanne (1868), James (1876) & Louisa (1877).
I would be very grateful for any information on this family.

I am trying to trace the family of Charles and Annie Eliza Morgan
March (nee Evans).
They had children Norman Huddleston C, Sorell Charles and Thomas David March
Has anyone got these people in there family.
This is the last line of my Evans family I have to trace.
So if anyone can help me I would be very grateful.
