Hi all,
Is there SKS who could lookup a death notice for me in the "Mercury" please?
Margaret DRINKWATER (nee SHORT) died on 13 December 1918 in Auckland New
Zealand but I've been told a death notice appears in the "Mercury".
Many thanks

Hi List
Does anyone have any knowledge or connection to
William SCANLIN of the 40th regiment.
He was convicted (1827 Launceston) of feloniously shooting at T. Burnell. It appears William was sentenced to hang.
The info above comes from The Decisions of the Tasmanian Superior Court Decisions.
cheers

Dear Elva,
Unfortunately the Registrar Generals microfiche index post 1900 only goes to
1905 for births. Hopefully the new Digger Version of BDMs post 1900 will
include births for the year you are looking at. It is expected to be
realeased in the not too distant future.

Hi all,
I have convict ancestors and their children who went to Tasmania after
Norfolk Island was closed. They all went to Tassie: Jacob Bellett & Ann
Harper and children,
Thomas Kidner & Jane Whiting and children, Elizabeth Smith & Samuel Free,
Ann Brooks & James Morrisby (my line from Ann's first child - Morrisby not
the father).
Anyway some of them should've finished their time when they went to Tassie,
why did they all go there - did they have to even though the sentence should

Hello,
Can someone tell me if the parents of a person are listed on a Tasmanian
Marriage and Death certificates?
I'm trying to trace two sisters, Elizabeth & Sarah Mason who lived
inTasmania, mid to late 1800.
Boths names are common but I can narrow the possibilities of birth
certificates via the listed parents.
The problem comes with marriages and deaths; apart from using the date at
death (which can be very approximate).
I don't know if Elizabeth Mason married; if she did marry, I don't know the

One question
Do you come from William Brooks Or Richard Larsom/Larson.
As William was the first child and us Tassie researchers would love to know
what happened
to William Brooks especially me.

Hi everyone,
A very kind lady from this list is posting me a black & white photocopy (of
a photocopy)
of the painting done by C.H.T. Constantini, on the bottom of a pretty poor
copy that I have it says:
" CHT Constantini George and Jemima Billet with family (c1852) cat no. 177 "
Has anyone got a good quality colour copy in their computer that they could
send to me please ? (and I'll pass on to the other lady).
I've been googling to see if any Constantini's work was on-line (another

Hi Tricia,
there is a Robert BUCHANNON listed on the AOT Tasmanian Convict Index CD,
convict per Isabella Watson in 1842.
Nothing else I can come up with I'm afraid.

G'day, first, keep in mind that death penalties passed by the court were
reviewed by the Governor before they were carried out. Many sentences
were commuted to fixed or undefinite terms of transportation.
Transportation from VDL was, as I understand it, generally to Norfolk
Island.
Secondly, if the death penalty was carried out in VDL, sometimes it is
not recorded where you might expect to find it. As the early records
are in fact church records, before civil registration, the records in
fact relate to b
Hi Malcolm,
If no-one can answer it here, it might be a good question for the Tasmanian

Please let us know what you find out.

I don't know the book or the author but I wrote a booklet on Mary Bowater at
the beginning of the year "A Most Remarkable Women, Convict and Land Holder
1765-1849". If you would like to email me off line I can tell you more

Hi Everyone,
My 3rd great grandparents James STEWART and Helen (Ellen?) CORBETT were married in Launceston on 23 Dec 1836. I have been unable to find any trace of parentage or even birthplace for either of them, does anyone else happen to have this pair in their family tree or any information on them?

Yes quite possibe: I had three lots who travelled without family elders.
The first was John Leonard Dowling in 1829 aged 13 i think and he had a
family friend on board with whom he then lived for years and worked for too.
Then Henry Dowling junior and his sister arrived about a year later: He was
20 or 21 but she was much younger. Then, Thomas Dowling aged 13 or so
travelled with Eliza Tayspill: I don't know who chaperoned whom but shortly
after their arrival she married his big brother Henry junior !

Hi Listers
Let me say at the outset that there is no right or wrong here.
I would simply like to put forward some observations from my own experience concerning possible confusions in the records, especially those pertaining to the transportation of convicts, and the way they are indexed, lest any one fall into the trap of not fully appreciating what they are looking at and how they should be interpreted. These comments span from the creation of the records in the first place to present time and are not

Hi Ian,
I had thought of that but he left everything to his wife.
There may have been another Emma Watkins in Hobart.
