It is correct that our Census has been destroyed - Australians were paranoid
about privacy.. but there are birth, death and marriage cds available for
Victoria plus the Victorian Historical Indexes are online and they cover
that period

If the above link does not work just use the first part up to au.

Hi Richard :)
Australian censuses were destroyed after the information was taken from them as far as I know. This site may be able to help you with more information ... http://www.jaunay.com/auscensus.html or http://www.nla.gov.au/guides/discoverguides/auscensus.html which states none with personal names exist after 1901 so I may be incorrect in my opening line!! I hope these help! :D
Take care,
Rob.

Hello from frost bitten England,
Can anyone tell me if there is a particular website for researching people who emigrated to Melbourne?
I'm researching my father's cousins who emigrated to Melbourne in the 1960's. They were William, Ronald and Ivy HALL. Their parents names were William (Bill) and Ivy HALL and they lived in Bell Street Newcastle, Northumberland.
Regards
Yvonne

Is anyone able to tell me if there is available any such thing as a census
of Melbourne, Victoria on microfiche ?
I'd be looking to find anything around 1880 if possible. Does such a thing
exist ?, if so where in Wellington might
i get access to such a thing ?. Im trying to research more on my SMITH
family (descendents of George SMITH, Boilermaker and his
wife Mary Ann WEDLAKE, both originally from London, England). So any help
would be most appreciated.
cheers
Richard
