Good morning Dianne (resending Dianne - finally remembered how to forward to List - I hope!) The SS Great Britain has an official website http://www.ss-Great-Britain.com The ship has been towed back to Bristol and rebuilt and is now a registered museum. Lots of information here regarding its history etc., plus pics. Another site, put up by the NEW family, is worth a visit. Has an interesting passenger's diary. Do not have the URL to hand, but typing - New Family Great Britain - into Google should get

5. Re: [GEELONG] Immigration Depot [1]
Hi Dianne, The "picture" you're thinking of - would that be the painting by Charles Mackin of the Industrial School (which is what the Immigration Depot became)? The original is in the Geelong Art Gallery but appeared in different articles in the Addy - I think in their 150 years celebration series which were reproduced in the book you mentioned. We have a copy of the painting and permission from the Gallery to reproduce it in our Point Henry arrivals books. Regards ........... Susie Z ----- Original

Hello Chris, Anyone dying in Heidelberg may have been buried in Coburg Cemetery, or wherever family were buried. Hotham East was North Melbourne so the person may have been buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery or again in the Coburg cemetery. 9. Re: [GEELONG] where would they be buried? [1]
Thanks John, You may well be right that he has died in a hospital and just been registered in that area, he was only 48 when he died.I suspect he was not married, none on the index till 1920, his mother died the year before at Footscray, I will write to them, have the address, she was widowed in 1899 so I suspect her son may have just stayed with Mum. I appreciate your help, Chris.

Dear Listers, Is there anyone with any idea of where I should look to find the possible adoption of a baby born onboard a ship in 1849. The baby's name was Frederick Silk, and his young mother died 6 days after his birth on the voyage to Australia. The Sir George Seymour landed at Point Henry in Geelong. The father of the child was only 19 years of age at the time and there is no sign of this child with the name Frederick Silk anywhere here in Australia. What adoption opportunities were available in
