Hi Lorraine,
Recently I was putting together a presentation to give to schools for the
Geelong Heritage Centre and I remember looking at a couple of photos of the
Newtown / Chilwell Fire Brigade - 1860s to maybe 1880s or beyond.
The Heritage Centre have a terrific collection of photos. I'd suggest that
you put in a research request to the Heritage Centre. As well as checking
photos I'd ask them to check the Geelong Advertiser Indexes and articles for
you as part of the same Research Request.

Hi Sandra,
I can actually send you a copy of the entire article which includes two
photographs - one of the late Henry MEAKIN and Mr R H MEAKIN if you would
like it. Just send your postal address directly to greenthumbs@bigpond.com
so I can post it to you. I believe these articles were actually written by
the families themselves and are brief biographies of the families.

Ada,
This is quite uncanny - I have an Ernest b. 1875, Laura b. 1880 and Evelyn b. 1883 in my family, but no Lily but an Ethel. I have photos of them taken later in life at Geelong photographers. So close and yet so far!! Hopefully someone owns them

What if the photos were taken in Geelong but the children were born
overseas?

Hello Everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of the " Meredith School No. 1420 Centenary 1874-1974" as the Geelong & District Cons'd Book Index indicates there is a reference for a JAMES HANKINSON on page 17 of the book.
I'd be very greatful if SKS could provide me with details of James' entry in the book.
much thanks,
Brenda
Thanks, Carolyn. I think the first mentioned E & C Martin are mine (Edwin
and Caleb, brothers who were stonemasons), but I doubt the Cricket Club
Hotel Edwin belongs to me, and probably not the Gold Mining Edwin Martin.

Dear Listers
I am researching a McCukser family in Victoria (and possibly WA and NSW)

I am not sure if I have posted this previously but Ada's email prompted this question. Is anyone researching the Murray, Stewart or Scott families fo Geelong. I have photos taken by Wilmot & Keys of;

Carollyn has told me of a book "The Geelong Germans : A Record of some
19th Century Families".
This mentions the name WINTER.
Following my previous mail re 'Germans in Geelong in 1914', could anyone
do a lookup and provide a few details about the WINTERs, in particular
the Winter who had a wine cellar in Grovedale, previously Germantown,
just south of Geelong.
Just one or two sentences would satisfy me.
Thanks heaps

Hello All,
Still trying to locate identity of the businesses/shops that existed in Moorabool
Street c. 1913.
I have located the exact block which included 60 - 70 Moorabool
Street on the GeoVic site.
Also found quite a few photos on Picture Australia.
It appears that the block in question is on the south-west corner of
Corio Street. My photos show 'The Age' building and 'Picadilly'
something.
Am I on the right block?
My aunt, a wine merchant, lived at 66 or 68 Moorabool Street in 1913. It is obvious that

Hello Carolyn.
What a tease! I read the names, then realized the order of birth ruled this
family out. For a moment I thought I had a candidate for ownership!
Thanks for responding.

I have a Harris/Kennedy family in Geelong who might perhaps fit.
It is a long story, but briefly Ellen Kennedy (nee McGrath) came to Tasmania
in 1819 as a convict. She married Henry Harris (convict) in 1825 and they
had several children (we have only been able to identify two). Henry and
Ellen seperated: one daughter (Margaret Harris) married George Willis and
came to Port Fairy. Ellen Harris/Kennedy then came to Port Fairy and then
Geelong. IN 1871 when she died at Geelong she said that oe of her

The name Harris has provoked a memory that there was a Mgt Harris living
here in the Cape Clear/Pitfield area and she had a daughter too. Something
always didnt match with other names about as I remember There are burials
in the Cape Clear Cem for her and I think an Abel HArris and a small child.
Maybe that also throws some more search lines out.
