Hello again Robyn
I forgot to mention my William Stewart b 1815 son of William Stewart & Jean
Cruickshank was baptised at the Manse of Forglen, Banff and also his
marriage to Helen Grant was shown as Forglen & Rathven, Banff.
William Snr b 1785 was baptised "In Ryland" at Alvah, Banff and married to
Jean at Forglen, Banff.
So my Stewart/Stuart ancestors were mainly from Banff.

Hello Ann
Do any of these look familiar? The years for Robert's family are a little
out to the ones you specified though so perhaps not yours. Hope these

Hi Jennifer,
thank you so much for your help. I will work through them all and then I can
see where they travelled across Victoria and NSW. I couldn't find Kildare on
any online map of Vic. so searched for Kildare St and there is one in North
Geelong near Bell Park so perhaps that was a settlement in the early days.
Jennifer, may I ask another favour please? Could you see if there is a
marriage record for Robert Laws JACKSON to Rachel STAPLETON? Up till your
email I couldn't find a wife for Robert an
Hello Robyn
I apologise for the delay in replying, I'm afraid I misplaced your email.
I have not been able to get back as far as the early 1700's but I also have
the name GRANT in the family tree although this is from a second marriage of
my gg grandfather William Stewart who married Helen GRANT in 1848. They
came to Australia in 1853 with their 2 daughter's Mary & Frances and settled
in Geelong, Vic. Although my g grandfather Alexander was only 13 years of
age [from the 1st marriage] he did not arri
Hello Marion,
I realise this may be a little late and may not be of interest, and is away
from Geelong, but there is a John Cooper Hall attached to the now Uniting
Church in Benalla.
Did your John COOPER by any chance belong to the Benalla area at any time?
Could they be the same person?
If so, and you can supply some further details we maybe able to help.
Cheers,

Hi Anne
One other thought - the death certificate of Robert and Rachel's child
who died in Victoria:

Spouse Surname/Father: Robert

Should give details of any siblings of this child - named if still

Hi Susie,
I was about to suggest, as a councillor chosen by the councillors to be
their leader/ Mayor, that it might mean a councillor who previously held an
elected office/ Mayor, to show his stature. That was OK for Reeves, but
didn't work for the others.

Can someone give me an e-mail address for Lorna BURGER, who was
researching the TREWIN and other families in the Barrabool shire?
I have exchanged snail mail with her in the past, though we've not
been in touch recently, so I don't think she'd mind your passing her
address to me off-line.
Many thanks

Joan,
Can't be of much help but I too am researching Stewarts from Banff Scotland
and courtesy of Russell Fraser am back to William Stewart 1710 married Jean
Grant.

Alexander and William are a both common names in the generations of the
family. The branch I am researching is William Stewart and Jane Mitchell
who arrived in Sydney on a Bounty ship in 1839. There may be a connection
through many of the males whose maraiges have not yet
Hi Robyn
William & Alexander are also common names in my ancestors. Do you have any
connections to the Cruickshank name in Aberdeen as my Stewarts married into
this family....Alexander, my great grandfather being Alexander Cruickshank
Stewart/Stuart named after his grandmother's maiden name.
I haven't been able to get back that far, only to James Stewart who married
Susannah Stewart in Alvah, Banff in 1784.
I wonder if there could be a connection between our families!

Thanks very much for your response Robin.
I've already had a discussion with someone else on the Maria GOODWIN/OSBORNE
folk and decided it was not mine. My George OSBORNE and his father William
both came from Bristol. William married Sarah (nee STRONG) born in
Somerset.
Thanks a lot and happy researching :-))

Bill, I'll scan my photocopies of the photos and send them off-list
tomorrow - for tonight, my desk needs a major tidy-up before I get
out more sheets of paper, and it's my bedtime. The originals are in
our church archives, and have been cut down to fit into one of those
mounts for bid occasions which have a lot of smaller photos around
one big one. I don't know how much of their backing remains. Our
layout person will be scanning them properly for the book.

Hi,
I'm looking for information about Ann(ie) Maria FRIEND, daughter of Charles FRIEND, who lived in Geelong from 1848-c.1854. She married Thomas WEDGE at Christ Church, Geelong in 1852. They moved to Tasmania where they later divorced. Annie married a William James BURNHAM (alias JW ALVAN) and returned to Geelong where they lived from 1886-92, and again in 1893/4. I have information about her from this period that "she has relatives in Geelong named "Sutton" one of whom is a butcher and another a storekeep

Hello Deidre,
I guess that there have been hundreds( possibly thousands) of families
involved with the Geelong Hospital throughout its history-
Could you be a little more specific please..?
In what capacity, what time frame etc."
This could make your query much more fruitful...
