5. Cooper boys - Morwell snippet from Yackandandah Tiimes [1]
Came across this snippet in the Yackandandah Times Nov 1 1901 Two boys, sons of Mr. S. Cooper, manager of the Morwell Pottery Works, were very severely scalded on Monday whilst "experimenting". The lads got an empty oil drum, half filled it with water, plugged the hole securely, put it on a fire, and then stood close by to watch the result. The pressure of the steam burst the drum, the boiling water leaping up into the faces and over the bodies of both boys, badly scalding each. Rd. Smith attended to bo

Hi Denise, Bald Hills is today's Seaton. There is no 1866 Directory entry for Horatio Stewart/Stuart. However there is a D. Crockett Stewart, carpenter, in Chute St Bald Hills. What chance he is an American??? Davy Crockett Stewart????? Wonderful reference, thank you, Denise. For those with an interest in Edwards Hill/Donnelley's Creek, have a look at December 1865 Cheers Linda >the Diary is online for all to see URL below. I also have it on various >Cds. 9. Stratford and Maffra visitors [1]
Hi Everyone, Just in the thought that some people may be planning to travel to Stratford and Maffra in January for research, I thought I would mention a couple of quick pointers. In Stratford, the Museum is closed for redevelopment, but there will be some research and cataloguing staff there every Tuesday from 17th January onwards, and visits may be made by appointment. Further details (and any changes) will be at http://kapana.customer.netspace.net.au/Stratford.html In Maffra, the research staff w

To the best of my knowledge - coming from Bairnsdale, go through Sale, over the causeway to Wurruk, turn left immediately past the Wurruk Hotel-Motel (I think now called Riverstay), and as soon as you are out of Wurruk you are in Pearsondale. Go too far west out there, and you are in Kilmany. Which was taken up by William Pearson. Go too far south, and you are in the river. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to be named in the VicRoads Directory, either. Cheers Linda At 03:52 PM 15/12/2005 +1100, you wr

12. Re: [AVG] Sale Pioneers Register [1]
Hi Narelle and Others, Just to clarify, and I think we went though this last time. It is: Glenys Wain or Bev Jago Sale and District Family History Group PO Box 773 Sale, 3850 Just to clarify it is NOT the Sale Historical Society, although the box number is correct for the Family History Group. The Historical Society has a similar box number (724?), so things can go astray. :( Cheers Linda At 07:32 AM 14/12/2005 +0800, you wrote: >Hi Robbo, >The details you are looking for are >Glenys Wain or Bev Ja

I don't think Ada is responsible for the rewriting of the book, I think she is just, in her usual generous and thoughtful way, passing on information that may be of help to others. If she had monetary reward for all she has done for genealogists and historians in Victoria she'd be a multi-millionaire! Thanks for the two replies Linda, I'll look into the other matter . Apart from the Insolvency notice for Spaulding in the Ovens & Murray Advertiser 1865 this also was in the paper a month later , thought it may be of interest. The two hotels named made me think that perhaps there may exist a list of publican's licenses which were granted annually. Apart from going to Vic Gov Gazette which I can't get hold of here in Qld, newspapers are the next best thing. Does anyone know where the licensing cou

Dear listers, I have received many enquiries on the above book, since it went out of print in 1991. For the last three years, I was only able to say: it is being rewritten and extended. A new researcher was engaged by the Trustees of the Altona Memorial Park (Helen DOYLE) to upgrade a second edition , and to extend the list of those buried in the Williamstown , Victoria, cemetery to 1858- 2004. Chapters 1 to 5, written by Andrew Lemon and Marjorie Morgan "remain substantially unchanged with the exce

A very helpful person from the Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum has given me leads to a couple of interesting documents in my family history. It is frustrating sitting here in Canada knowing that the information exists, but not being able to get to it! The sources are available at the Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum, and probably also at the Sale Library or the Sale Family History group (and perhaps other places that I don't know about). Is there SKS who would please do 2 lookups, and transcribe what
