Hi Everyone,
I gather that promnet has changed hands, and is no longer the
desirable place that family historians and historians would like to go.
That means Toora FHG is now
at http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/tdfhg/web/index.html
But what I am looking for (to save me time), is can anyone tell me
where South Gippsland Historical Society has gone to????
Thanks!
Linda
(who is off to edit the AVG links site, fast)
Thanks Linda for your help once again.
I guess it is where Applebys were when I was younger.
Cheers

George N. Devenport (1862-1945) operated at Maffra c.1895 to 1907 as
a stationer and photographer, until selling his business to

Hello listers,
Looking for contact with researchers of Alfred BARRETT (c 1860 - 1945 Korumburra) & Maria BOTTERILL (c 1864 - 1948 Korumburra). Children from 1889-1893 in Richmond and then moved to Korumburra.

The Union List of Newspapers (3rd edn, 1975) gives the Morwell
Advertiser as 1886-1967, and held at the State Library of Victoria.
the Latrobe Valley Express starts 1965
There are a few other entries, but nothing that covers that date.
I doubt very much you are going to find anything online, but I am
happy to be proven wrong.
Reading

which was compiled a few years ago, it appears to be on microfilm

Dear David,
Many Thanks for your email, I really appreciate your time and effort.
Fortunately I have access to the collection of Lee's photos. So I will
decline your kind offer.
Thankyou anyway for your kind invitation.
Many Thanks, Rudi

Hi Jan
I may be wrong but I think the Latrobe Valley Express began somewhere in the 1960's. The Traralgon Journal began long before that but don't know exactly when

Hi Everyone,
Eric Tetlow has kindly brought to my attention the index to The Argus (a
Melbourne newspaper), for 1870 - 1879.
He relates that he has found 1504 references to Gippsland - I haven't been
counting, but I haven't got off the first page yet, and am excited to find
a reference to the Turpin family (north of Glenmaggie) successfully growing
opium poppies (I didn't have a starting date), and reports on the death of
William Tennant Dawson, early Gippsland surveyor. I knew he died relatively

Thank you Linda for sharing this information.
I have found several references to the Ronalds' family in the Argus. I hope
they will continue to publish the index.
The Turpin family mentioned are related to the family I am searching.

Thanks Terry and Ann for the following contacts.
I have just rung the first one Bob Kemp and he is of
a different branch of Kemps altogether.
We had a beaut chat though.
I'll try the second suggestion when it is more appropriate
timewise to ring. (daylight saving is a pain sometimes
when ringing interstate, and Victoria wants to go to bed!)
