I'm researching the MARKEY Family, actually in other parts of Victoria, and
one of my correspondents mentioned a Mount Markey in Gippsland.
I've had a look at my trusty Atlas, and can find Casilis, but not Mount
Markey.
Does anyone know of this Mount Markey? And does anyone know how/for whom it
was named?
Many thanks,

Hello to the List, I am trying to locate any relatives of JAMES HARVEY/THOMPSON who is supposed to have been born in Eldorado. This is what is on his daughter's birth certificate and his death certificate. His mother was ISABELLA HARVEY (born 1835)who married JOSEPH THOMPSON(born 1821) in 1860 in Victoria. Their children were

Hi List,
The Deputy has been at it again, and the AVG Home page photo gallery has
been updated. It now has a photograph of Coopers Creek Hotel, after the
fire, and Gabo Island Lighthouse (published 1897).
To find it go to the home page at
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVG/ and follow the links to the
photo gallery.
Have just received permission to publish an exciting transcript of early
life around Seaton/Heyfield, which will hopefully start tonight.

Dear Perle,
I am not related to your line but have just checked the Victorian
Pioneer Index and found that Joseph THOMPSON was born in 1868 at
Birregurra as were all the other children, except for Newton who was at
Colac.
Hope this helps a little.
Kind regards, Sue (Tropical North Queensland, Australia)

Having been following messages on the list for some time with much interest and no enlightenment, I have a question for anyone who might be able to help:
My great grandmother, Mary Ann Bruce, is a minor mystery. The family record seems reliable, as far as it goes. Born Allenvale, Tasmania 18 Feb., 1846, arrived Gippsland 1857. Married Charles Henry Gales at Maffra, 21 Dec., 1867. Parents shown as James and Ann Bruce, of Allendale [sic] Tasmania. I need to know how, when and where Mary Ann came to Gippsland,
Hi Listers,
Could sks please help me with the full name of a location with the
abbreviation BGO. In my research I have found an ancestor born in this
location and originally I thought it was Bendigo. However, as the
family lived in the Bairnsdale area 100 years ago I wondered if there
was a place in Gippsland which may have the same abbreviation.
Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Bob..and others,
I too downloaded this file...but on investigation I think the GED file import function is on the makers "to-do" list....so I've shelved it for the time being as I have enough trouble maintaining my files as is....so I'm not about to begin a whole other database full of imputting!!
Would be a very helpful tool otherwise though.

Hi Listers,
May I be permitted a small advertisement.
The Friends of Nyerimilang have commissioned a history of Nyerimilang (a
property overlooking the Gippsland Lakes at Nungurner, not that far from
Lakes Entrance) from Marion Le Cheminant, which covers the various fortunes
of the area from selection in the 1880s to the present and includes a
detailed account of the establishment of the property as a heritage park.
The book is copiously illustrated and contains an extensive index of names.

Hi Leesa
Have you heard of the booklet "Mallacoota Reflections' by the Mallacoota
Historical Society 1990. It gives some information about the McDonald and
Bruce families.
It would appear that your Helen or Ellen is called Nelly (often used for
Ellen) Smith. She married Lachlan McDonald and then later Robert Bruce.
If you are unable to get this booklet, let me know and I will type out this
part for you.
Info in my book definitely ties in with your information.

Hi,
Thanks all for the feedback that I have received regarding my MACDONALD/BRUCE/ABEL query. I really didn't expect to get that much of a response but my husbands side of our wall chart is now looking MUCH more replete!!
I probably should own up now to my Gippsland names!!!
On my side of things the surnames include: VINALL, CORRIGAN, ENGLISH, ANNAND, PEARCE, FLINT, COX & BRYAN (these are all my great grandparents names)
If any one has any queries re these names please feel free to contact me.
thanx aga
