Yesterday I accessed a couple of fiche for directories of Bendigo 1852 ..Diggings (Author unknown) 1859 ..Bendigo (I Thorold Tullock) I was looking for references to Charles LACEY butcher which I found in the latter.(White Hills) Does anyone know of any other directory for the period before ie < 1859 or immediately after? The nearest town toArmstrongs is Ararat . There is very little to see there now . There is a register that the cemetery trust holds and I know that they do searches. I had one done ages ago. MIs? I haven't heard of these being available but would happily. There is a CD published by Aust. Institute of Genealogical Studies ( AIGS) which is titled 'Cemetery Transcriptions' Monumental Inscriptions from 258 Cemeteries. The majority of these are Victorian. This CD is available through Gould Genealogy in S.A. Price is $35.00 plus postage. I found the following for you: Donald McDONALD died 30 Aug 1900, 61 yrs, buried at Buangor Cemetery. my maternal grandfather was John Roy Douglas, b Ballarat Sept 1897 to James E Douglas & Helen F Douglas of Reed Street, Creswick. He was one of three children, with his mother dying (I assume between 1897 - 1900) leaving a child a few days old. I have the original funeral notice and mention in the newspaper of that time has the spelling of Douglas with the additional S. 16. Hector McDonald and Others [1]
I am reposting my interests in the hope there is someone currently doing research on Hector McDonald who lived in the Heathcote, Avenel, Shepparton areas prior to his death in Beechworth. He was born in Scotland and lived in Victoria in the late 19th century. I have a great deal of information on Hector, his families etc. but I am not related in any way. Would be pleased to share my research if it will help solve a "huge mystery". Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested in the McDonald clan. C
