Hi Bill.
Thanks for the offer - I've not a lot more to go on in that period except
that he was in Benalla pub in 1876 - child born there. I don't know how
long he was there - could have been before 1876 although a child born in
1874 was registered in Wangaratta where the family had been in hotels for
some years, also Oxley.
Directories have him in pubs in Oxley and Wang up to 1872 period. Maybe he
comes up in other Directories, the one looked up was Bailliere's Directory
and I don't think 1876 was

Hi Denise,
here are some book excerpts which help explain the old routes -
S. E. Ellis (1972) A History of Greta. Lowden Publishing Co., Kilmore.
"The township [Greta] was surveyed in 1852, and there appears little
doubt that it was taken from the Southern portion of Edward Bernard
GREEN's "Green Vale" run which adjoined Myrhee. It was surveyed by
Thomas WEDGE, assistant surveyor. The customary mile square was
marked out for a township reserve, but only the portion bounded by

With all the information pouring in all I need to do know is get a Vic map
and draw lines (g),
This is something I didn't know - I wonder if it was a quicker trip or
shorter trip or both, than the present road now, if one still had to walk.

Hi Guys
Researching the family of Elizabeth Ann Clover born 1861 in Seymour. Parents were James Clover and Bridget Ellen Barfoot (Bridget Ellen daughter of Convicts John Barfoot and Elizabeth Church) James and Bridget Ellen Clover both buried in Mooroopna Cemetary. James has the dubious honour of being the first to be buried in a paupers grave.

My William was born Footscray in 1889. Did he put his age back to get in the

A couple of years ago someone asked me if I'd heard of their ancestor by the name (what I recall after this time) of SING or similar. It seems that he disappeared leaving a wife and children.
This came up in the OMA for 6.3.1862 and I wonder if it could be one and same. I think it was Rhonda who wrote to me - from Chiltern area. Again, it was 2 years ago, the memory fades.........

Hi Bill,
Many thanks for trying and spending time on this. I guess he may never had
a pub as family indicate, in Benalla. Yes this is the birth of the last
child, mother Frances Kate (Catharine) Gleeson
The family headed for Albury after this.
Anselm (Anslem and many other variations, even Salmon) was a miner also, so
perhaps he was down there doing just that.
Again thanks

I wish to thank the many kind people, including, Cathie, Jill, Pamela, John, Gaylene and Jackie, who so promptly did a lookup on this family for me. I am overwhelmed. God Bless you.

My GGrandmother Martha Knight (nee MOORE) was the wife of Joseph
Knight who had a farm on the Broken River near Kialla. She was
drowned in the Broken River in September 1877. I am looking for a
possible Newspaper report on this tragedy so that I can find out what
happened and I am also trying to find out where she is buried. I hope
that SKP can help me solve this mystery.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Thanks for that information Denise, I will make note of it.
