4. [AUS-VIC-West] Court Records [0.986306]
Hello everyone, I am trying to chase up some old court records and don't know where to look. I have gone through the PROV site, but none of the dates of the documents seem to match what I am looking for. (Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong courts!) The papers that I am looking for are about the Insolvency of my GGGrandfather, James CUST, and date from 5th Aug 1856. On that date, my GGGF petitioned for voluntary sequestration. On the 8th Aug, Judge E.E. WILLIAMS in the Supreme Court of Victoria, ordered seq
5. [AUS-VIC-West] HANSEN of Macarthur [0.986306]
Is there anyone who can give me some info on the Hansen family? James Hansen was a grazier at Macarthur and I think the property was called 'The Braes'. Does the family still own the property? His wife Jean [Grant] who died in 1982 was a cousin of my mother. James and Jean had 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters. I would love to make contact with the family if possible. Regards, Margaret Rowe
6. [AUS-VIC-West] Twist - Cox - [0.986306]
Dear Colin, Did I get around to answering your email of the other day. I am sorry but there does not seem to be any links to the information I have. The Paterson history is limited to me, so that does not mean there is no link. Just keep working and if I can help further I will try. I have no notes in my mind about twist, but will put with my Cox web page file and one day soon I intend building a JAMES COX web page - similar to the WILLIAM COX one in my signature. For now...best wishes in your searches...

Thank you to everyone who sent me information on people moving from Tassie to the Western District I was just wondering please why there were so many free settlers in Tassie buying land pre 1835? I realise that many convicts would have served their sentence and been freed and maybe some family joined them. That there were also Govt employees and some business people involved in trading supplies. Are these the free people who purchased all the land ? Otherwise what was the draw card to this convict "hells

Dear Kay, Thanks for that email. I realise that I have written some familiar text, but there are new researchers who are not aware of some of the early history and I thought it good to help with the list. I will try regularly to add a little. It is good to read about the links between these families as it is very common indeed in those early days of the colonies. Van Diemen's Land families especially, created a lot of links with families who also came to Western Districts. I could name a host of them mysel
