Hello,
Would it be possible for me to have the info re John Ritchie also? I think
that some of my family worked for him when they arrived.
Kindest Regards ...... Corinne.
Dear Corinne, Yes, of course, but I am tied up today, with one thing or
another.
I am busy in family matters with grandchildren, but will certainly get back
to it
by early next week....Sincerely Thelma.

Thanks for the information Helen. Could you name the 51 cemeteries
covered for the List members please? I think your War Heritage web site
is a great idea. It is a shame that more are not taking the opportunity
to immortalise in this way.

Hello Everyone,
Just wondering if someone knows when the areas of Carpendeit and
Bungador were opened up for settlement. My grandfather married in 1869
and farmed for many years at Carpendeit, while my grandparents ran a
small dairy herd at Bungador.
I have ordered Jack Fletcher's books "The Infiltrators" and "We Who
Followed" but believe my ancestors are not mentioned, but hope to
gleam some basic information if it is available.
Looking forward to response/s.
Thank you

Thank you to all of you who shared your knowledge of these children who
went missing!!! My interest in the subject was spurred by the letter in the
Geelong Advertiser while I was checking for 'Mysteries and Murders' of
early Geelong & district for a booklet I am compiling for the Geelong
Family History Group. I was attempting to see if the mystery had occurred
in the Geelong district which I am covering. Unfortunately Horsham is a
little too far removed!!! Many thanks again everyone, Pam Jennings

Hi All
I apologise if anyone has been trying to contact me since Thursday. Please resend if you have. I came home from work Thursday to find that an enthusiastic family member of the younger generation had disconnected our email connection without warning me. We had discussed changing providers a couple of weeks ago, but I thought I'd get the grace to prepare for the change. Put me on the spot I can tell you.

Attached (inline, below) is the text of a letter I have sent to 25
Cemetery Trusts in S.W. Victoria. I hope to get this project up and
going very soon and will obviously need any assistance I can get. I
know it's a bit of a cliche, but I really see this as a way of "putting
back in" as a way of appreciating the incredible assistance I have
received from others. If you have any ideas, suggestions, etc., they
will be most welcome.

Hello Listers,
Would someone be able to tell me where the Iver National School was in the
1870's, please ? Possibly in the Geelong area.
Thanking you.

Dear Ann, From the "History of Warrnambool" by R.Osburne -
the following references to Walker.
1. I find the paragraph on the Independant Church. In September 1885,
the fine school hall, with class rooms, adjoining the church,
was opened by Hon.W.F.Walker M.P.
The hall with orchestral platform will hold about 500 and cost #1500.
2. In notes from 1862 - A grand musical festival was held in the
Wesleyan Church in August, with 20 performers.
The trebles were led my Mrs.Tate and tenor by W.Walker.

I've had it too.

please run it by me first before you put it on the List. Some people find
these things quite upsetting.

Hi all,
In 1871, William Bateson was born at Boiling Downs Flat near Sandford
according to his birth certificate. Is there such a place? Would anyone
have a local map that would show where it is IF it exists. Vern McCallum
seems to think it is somewhere between Sandford and Henty.
SURNAMES researching
BATESON, FIEGHERY, PINCOTT, LACKMANN, ROGERS, CLARKE, MORLEY.
Also seeking arrival of Mary Fieghery from Clare, Ireland before 1867.

Hi Listers
The location of "Old Books" and "Out of Print Books" can be often found on
specialised websites. I have a page on Ballarat Genealogy devoted to links
to Book Sellers at:
http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/lnkbooks.htm
At the top of the page are a number of links to specialised SEARCH SITES
for books. Try entering the author or key word and you may be surprised
what you find. I have tried location words such as Glenelg Victoria or
Wannon Victoria or place names and you will sometimes stum
Dear friends,
I was wondering whether there is anyone on the lists who lives near

you do.

Dear Friends,
I have been asked by my builder to see if any of you would know the country
of origin of one Joseph PRATO who was supposedly married to Mary DUNN and
having Unregistered kids in Ararat, Victoria in the 1860s.
Various family stories say that he came from Italy, Spain and even Mexico
via the USA.
I look forward to any responses.

David in Ballarat
