I haven't come across any Batty with an 'e' on the end.
I will look through what I have and get back to you.

Hi Daryl,
Great to get your response. It gets more and more confusing, but there
definately are two people. They were first cousins. And although the

Well,
if you prove me wrong I'll be delighted.

Hotspur is a small rural settlement in south-west Victoria between Heywood
and Digby and located on the Crawford or Smoky River.
Like many settlements it has a WW1 Avenue of Honour. Hotspur's Avenue
contains 40 trees dedicated to memory of local servicemen from WW1. The
Avenue has been restored and there will be a plaque unveiling ceremony at
Hotspur, 2:00pm, Saturday 23rd June 2001.

Dear Beryl and Friends of the Western Districts,
It may have been quiet on the list, but my life has changed a bit somewhat
with a grandson staying for a while. That calls for some changes indeed.
I have sought for 15 odd years the links with these families and have
much I could share with others. I am not actively seeking info, but
welcome any links to the following names.
I am hopefully trying to get back to my new interest as I am 'hooked'

A very nice lady sent me this message and with her permission I am posting

Here is her message:

Hi Beryl,
I have a McDONALD connection. Margaret who married Colin CAMERON,
they came out on the Euphrates in 1856 to Belfast Vic with six
children.
Also on the same ship was Allan MCDONALD his wife Sarah and Donald
infant. Both families were assisted by James RITCHIE of Blackwood
Station, occupation shepherd, and from Inverness.

The Cameron family took up land on part of Blackwood Station by 1862
at Yalimba East.

Hi Eileen
If this is Allan MCDONALD who settled in Hamilton I've been looking for his
background for ages. Wife Sarah GILLIS. Only hiccup is I have Donald born in
1857, unless they lost the first one. Three of their children married into
my HOLMES family. One of the girls had CAMERON as a second Christian name.
Exciting!

Hi Listers,
I'm trying to find out if this station really existed, somewhere in the
old Wimmera District. It's referred to in "Pastoral Pioneers of Port
Phillip" by Billis and Kenyon, but not in "Victorian Squatters" by
Spreadborough and Anderson, which I think might be more accurate. The
owner is given as Henry Byass, but all the other references to Henry in
the book are wrong - it's actually Dr Lovel Byass from Portland.
We have some information about Dr Lovel Byass, but almost none on Henry

My g-g-grandparents, James Kerr & Jane Townley were married in Belfast in
1843 and emigrated to Australia in 1856, arriving in Hobart and then crossing
to Victoria - to Buninyong, then settling in the Cobrico district. Jane died
in 1911, aged 91 & is buried in Terang Cemetery. According to family lore
however, James decided at some stage to return to Scotland to visit Jane's
parents. He withdrew 800 pounds and was last seen drinking in a pub at Colac
with a man who later on seemed to have come into so

Hi all,
What can all you knowledgeable people tell me about the early days of this station property? I believe it was in the direction of Dunkeld out through Purdeet and may still exist.
I myself know nothing but would like to know where to find any printed information that is available especially about the time 1850 - 1900. Suggestions as to where to go to start a search are also welcome.
In the early days before Penshurst had a cemetery - 1850's on - burials took place there. Do

I've got a fair bit here on the VAUGHAN family of Learmonth - same family
at Pirron Yallock and Pomborneit and Ballarat. One married my Gt Gt Aunt
Elizabeth McGARVIE and when we were writing our book I ended up with the
whole VAUGHAN family tree as well! :)
I did also read a great book on them in the Colac Library but can't recall
it's name.
