Hello, Dolores!
I know of another person from Sanktanna who died in Krivoi-Rog (I don't
remember at the moment if in 1946 or 1947); but according to his son
(originally of Sanktanna, but now living in Arad) he was among the Germans
that were deported to this place; and my assumption is that he was taken
there for forced labor. Your Karl Henger may have been with him.

Hi Dietrich:
I am hoping to locate a military record of my Great Grandfather, Imre
HORVATH.
He was born during 1838-1840 in Dvmsvd, Hungary (Pest County). He was
married
to Eva NYERE in 1863 in Bakonyoszlop, Hungary. Eva NYERE was born in nearby
Csesznek, Hungary (Veszprem County) and lived there at the time of her
marriage.
Then, Imre HORVATH and Eva continued to reside in Csesznek, Hungary
(Veszprem

Hello everyone,
I have a Slovak WWI soldier (my grandfather's brother) I eventually want to
research. Right now I just don't have the time so I hadn't said anything
(took me a week to get to this!), but I subscribed hoping this list could
help me later, and I've already gotten a lot of terrific information. Karen
Hob has already sent me some great tips (Thanks!). I already have his birth
and marriage records and I eventually want to obtain his military records.

Karen,
Does the FHL Catalog CD number 50081 only have soldiers in the 1860's? I would be searching for a soldier who was in the Austrian/Hungarian military in the 1890's. Would CD number 50081 have this information on it?

Oh My God! I understand exactly what you mean when you said, "Whenever I
read this letter I thank God my Grandparents came over when they did." I
have letters written to my grandmother in German from relatives in
Yugoslavia and I just got one translated for me today. When I read the
translation of that letter I sat there and cried. It was so sad what my
relatives had to go through to live...if you want to call it living.

Hi Danny,
Thanks so much for your insight. You are probably right. Would you by any chance know where Krivoi-Rog is in Russia?
We have a letter from either Karl or Josef's daughter--still don't know which one--That she wrote to my Grandfather in 1948. It is very sad. She was taken to Russia for 2 years working in a munitions factory and shipped off to a camp in Leipzig, Germany. At the time of the letter (May,1948) she had been away from home for 6 yrs. She mentions that her sister, two cousins,an
The LDS CD contains the entire Family Search Library catalog. The military
records that are on film are from the Vienna Kriegsarchiv and give a
sampling of everything they have. I have by no means searched the CD
thoroughly and I use it mostly for records from the former Czechoslovakia,
Hungary, Silesia, Galicia and Bukowina so I have some idea about what is on
it in respect to those places.
In general the military records are:

I am researching the HENGER and AUFMUTH families. Especially Josef HENGER and his brother Karl HENGER my greatuncles who fought in WWI. They were from SanktAnna,Arad, Hungary. From a professional genealogist we learned that Josef died April, 1947 and Karl died March, 1947 in Krivoi-Rog/SU. Don't know the circumstances though. Prison camp? Slave labor? Would appreciate any help or ideas.
Thanks.,

My father, Ludwig (Lajos) Eberhardt from Sanktanna was in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. On the back of some pictures where he was wearing his military uniform, he wrote "Klosterneuburg" (a town near Vienna, or rather a suburb of Vienna), where Pioneer Battalion # 8 was stationed. This battalion eventually became Sapper Battalion # 1 and 47, towards the end of 1917 and beginning of 1918. I know also that Alexander (Sandor) Eberhardt of Sanktanna was in Pioneer Battalion # 7. Is anyone familia
Hi Danny,
Thanks so much for the information on Krivoi-Rog. I had no idea where this was. It's interesting that you know of someone else that was there. Thanks again.

A common soldier's military record from the 1860s tells nothing about his
wife. It only says whether or not he is married. (geheiratet or ledig)
NCOs and Officer's could marry and if they did there may be record of the
protocol they submitted to get permission --- a background check on the bride
to be. I have not yet found any of these on film at the LDS so I would
expect that one would have to ask the war archive if the record is available.
If they are available the war archive may tell you only
I made a mistake on my original query about my Greatuncles, Josef and Karl HENGER. They fought in World War II not World War I.

It is my understanding that the Adler society was originally founded to trace

By any chance do you know if this certificate requesting "free passage..."

Hi Dietrich!
My interest in subjetc A - H Military is WW I.
My uncles Anton and Franc PRASNICKI (brothers) never came home from this war
and I am searching for their destinies. No information about where they
finished their lifes, but some short data are here:
Anton, b. 1892, probably fought from very beginning of the war in Galicia
(served in 7. Kompanie of IR 87 Cilli - Celje) - after that he has been
missed.
Franc. b. 1896, enlisted during the war (not know when and where and which
military unit in) -
Looking for info on Grt Grandfather Anton Regl, born 1781 Vienna. Wish
to find his parents names. Have ordered microfilm "Militar Schematimus
etc. for 1790 to 1805 from LDS to check for data on military careeer
hopefully showing parents names. Locating parents names likely will
complete my research and give family history back for many years

The Library catlog on the Internet is the September 2000 version. The home

have a few more films under given titles.
I have tried finding titles I knew existed in the catalog on the Internet but
the fact that the search engine there is locality or surnamen based makes it
really hard to figure out how to use author and title when neither is a place
or a real name.
For example if you use the author of the Austrian military
