For what it is worth a J. Porter, farmer, was listed in the 1886 Down Directory for Katesbridge which is a few miles inland from Newcastle. In the same place was Alexander Porter who was a geneal merchant, undertaker and ran the post office. J.Anderson was a carpenter in Kilkeel which is just south of Newcastle. In Castlewellan just outside Newcastle was James Porter, Moneyslane, Ballyward and James Junior in the same place, both farmers. No Goudies/Gowdies are listed in these areas though directories do

Boy, it sure sounds like a good possibility, but I don't have any idea yet. I have four John McKelvie's and so far none match your dates or wives. The only one I don't have any dates on is John McKelvie, the father of John McKelvie that married Agnes Muir, but that won't work. I will keep your information and if anything shows up, I will let you know. Thanks for contacting me.

25. Re: John and Agnes Muir McKelvie of Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland [1]
Unfortunately I have no information on the parents of John McKelvie but I do have a McKelvie connection from the same area of Ayrshire but a little later than 1807. McKelvie is a relatively uncommon name so I feel there must be connection. I have a John McKELVIE who married Annie WAGSTAFF in 1846 in Loudoun. They must have settled in Newmilns which is near Riccarton and Galston as some of their children were born there. They were; James Wagstaff McKelvie b 1849, and Jean in 1853. The other children w
