1. Bargany [1]
Kathy, There is an estate called Bargany that is still an active estate today. It is by Old Dailly. There are estate records, but they are privately owned. My ancestors from Bargany were buried in the Old Dailly cemetery. I have the name of a researcher that went to the cemetery for me and was able to look through the estate records. I received lots of good information from the records. Contact me if you would like more information. J

3. OPRs of Kilmarnock [1]
Hi List I have just viewed the following on the Family Search pages and wondered if anyone had viewed this film/fiche. The OPR films we have viewed seem to be missing a lot of our family details and I'm thinking they may be here. This site says, no circulation to FHC. Would be interested if anyone has easy access to the film/fiche. 8. List Archives [1]
Thanks Alex for reminding us of the Archives and that they are so easily searchable. But I do appreciate the first person accounts of the success or lack thereof in working with the various resources. So in addition to learning the facts, maybe we can still share our experiences if someone were to ask not "how do I find a will?" about but "Has anyone had experience (good or bad) in using the SRO to find a will?" Don't you agree? Ms. Sheila Lilia Martin ((( >^..^< )))

The book I would recommend (try to get from a library) has the rather daunting title of: "The Independent Collier: the Coalminer as Archetypal Proletariat Reconsidered" Harrison, R. (ed.) (1978) Publisher: The Harvester Press, Hassocks Sussex, It covers more than Scottish mining, but there are some excellent chapters by Alan Campbell in there about Lanarkshire miners covering the 19th century and the changes that occurred, and it is very readable. If you want to go into more detail, and get a bit m

Hi Margaret, I saw your message for Judith on the Mailing list. Somehow I seem to have missed the one Judith put up. What caught my eye about your message were the words MOSSIDE, STEWARTON. I am not the expert on this side of my family only having gained the knowledge of their existence a couple of days ago from Marion in Australia who turned out to be my third cousin once removed, ( whatever that is). Marion sent me a treasure trove of information re our ancestors, taking me back to about 1730. My GGG G

I am trying to trace one William Douglas who was a sailor from Ayr and who jumped ship after arrival in Australia in 1853. All I, know about him back in Scotland is that he was a sailor from Ayr - don't know if this meant he was from Ayr in Ayrshire or from Ayr(shire). If anyone knows of any records that might exist of sailors from that time it may be of considerable help. I have used the LDS site and found some William Douglas entries but nothing to confirm that any of them are "my William". Thanks fo

24. Friar's Croft/MCINNES [1]
Had a quick look in what I have got but no reference to a railway accident in 1900 at Irvine, assuming it was the Glasgow &South Western railway. Railway accidents were numerous in these day. Many people were employed in this industry and there were many different types of acidents. Many of the smaller accidents only hit local papers if that. Probably your best bet is to contact their Archivist of the Glasgow and South Western Railway Association (I am a member) His name is Stuart Rankin
