St. Anthony or Santo Antonio, although adopted by the italians, was borne in lisboa and is one of the holy trinity of portuguese saints, along with Sao Jorge and Nossa Senhora de Fatima. that's probably why he appears so often. cma "I've only seen two other replies with Saints as Godfather, one from BLACKICE430. LUM-ZOWN "COO-BRUHNT" hi there...i was trying to phonetically pronounce these words to see if they had any resemblance to anything i might have heard of from my own family, but i can't. then i realised your family is from sao miguel, and your pronounciation, and therefore the manner which you remember pronounciation, is quite different from mine. my family is from sao jorge. has anyone figured out what the real words are? wouldn't be "loboshomen" and "cabrao"? would it? cma. _____________

Tammy, There is an excellent chance your Camacho ancestors are from Pico. Camacho is not well known in the central Azores group, except on Pico. Other than Pico, Camacho is extremely well-known on the island of Madeira. Of course, they all came from the continent before that. Just a tip. I checked my database on PORTUGUESE NAMES AND THEIR MEANINGS and found the following for the name BARAO. Barao - Information is from the book: James H. Guill, A HISTORY OF THE AZORES ISLANDS, Golden Shield International, Vol. 5, 1993, page 182. Dear Elizabeth: Let me begin by saying that Joco Ventura has also done some research for me and that I absolutely agree that he is a very competent genealogist whose prices are more than reasonable, in fact they are a bargain! That's a common Goverment citation from the Census Bureau. Portuguese are not considered Hispanic (notwithstanding some dictionaries).
