St. Anthony or Santo Antonio, although adopted by the italians, was borne in
lisboa and is one of the holy trinity of portuguese saints, along with Sao
Jorge and Nossa Senhora de Fatima.
that's probably why he appears so often.

LUM-ZOWN
"COO-BRUHNT"
hi there...i was trying to phonetically pronounce these words to see if they
had any resemblance to anything i might have heard of from my own family,
but i can't. then i realised your family is from sao miguel, and your
pronounciation, and therefore the manner which you remember pronounciation,
is quite different from mine. my family is from sao jorge.
has anyone figured out what the real words are? wouldn't be "loboshomen"
and "cabrao"? would it?

I thought I would share all the info with you since you are interested in
the lifestyles of different families and since you are writing a book about
the different families. Mine has many different links which might help you
some. I will find out what I can about my aunts and uncles from the other
side of the Island and the ones from Terceira who married into my family and
let you know what I find out. One of the old customs that I believe is still
going on today is that when someone asked God for a favor m
Tammy,
There is an excellent chance your Camacho ancestors are from Pico. Camacho is not well known in the central Azores group, except on Pico.
Other than Pico, Camacho is extremely well-known on the island of Madeira.
Of course, they all came from the continent before that.
Just a tip.
Boa sorte,
Doug

I have used Joco Ventura on several different occasions and I am quite
pleased with his research. I also know of another very good genealogists in
Dartmouth Ma. by the name of George Pacheco who has help me many of times. I
highly recommend both of them to anyone who is in need of a genealogist doing
research in the Azores. Both Joco and George are very honest men and their
fees are reasonable. You will be very satified with their work
Good Luck

Dear Elizabeth:
Let me begin by saying that Joco Ventura has also done some research for me
and that I absolutely agree that he is a very competent genealogist whose
prices are more than reasonable, in fact they are a bargain! George Pacheco
is another of those very talented and very competent genealogists whose
prices are bargain basement.
However, the price a genealogist charges has nothing to do with
professionalism, qualifications, or competence. A genealogist is always free

I know this may be a little far fetched but there was a Scottish doctor by
the name of Makay who was American consul on Flores. The Makay family stayed

conceivable that MAKAY possibly evolved into MAGILL. Just a thought.

history of the above either in the US or Calif. I can not find that email.
Does anyone remember this? I may be able to provide useful information. Thanks
