Robert again, you get some more search-results typing as single word: asbacherh|tte http://www.kreuznacherdiakonie.de/hpekd/asbacher/asbacher_main.htm http://www.harfenmuehle.de/ http://www.enuerto.net/D_Deutschland/55758-Asbacherhuette-63815-S.html Ralf

3. [B-W] Re: Naturalization [1]
Hi Tom, The Special Collections and Archives Dept (4th floor, Paul Dunbar Library) contain archives for Miami Valley counties, and more. If I remember correctly, they are 1 of 7 depositories designated by the state of Ohio to maintain these records. The following URL will take you directly to their page for government records: http://www.libraries.wright.edu/special/gov_records/. It shows all the counties they have records for. You can click on each county to see what records they have for it. There ar
4. [B-W] Lörcher of Breitenberg & Geislingen [1]
I can't remember if I have ever sent this out to all of you. Does anyone have any information on my German links? Two brothers and maybe a cousin came to America in 1854 due to the inheritance issues. Two settled in Illinois and my grandmother said some other kin came over later and settled in other parts of the country. Any help is appreciated! This is what I have gathered: Father: Johann Jakob LOERCHER (AFN: 202D-HVV) Family Mother: Anna Marie RENTSCHLER (AFN: 202C-CML) (City of Breitenbe
5. RE: [B-W] HERMAN 1850s-Present [1]
Andrea, if you know the name of your immigrant ancestor, and an approximate date of immigration, you can search the Baden immigration index. http://auswanderer2.lad-bw.de:8080/auswanderer/deutsch/index.htm Between 1850-1870, there were 70 individuals with the surname "Herman" who left Baden for somewhere (Russia, Nord Amerika, etc.) So it will help to know the name of your ancestor (first and middle names). Good luck. Ruth -----Original Message----- From: Andrea [mailto:zoei2001@glblnet.com] Sent

You can sort the list by Postal Code, Municipality, District, etc. by clicking the appropriate heading). http://www.siebes.de/html/batch.html (Available only in German. 8. RE: [B-W] SANTEE and FALK, Baden-Baden pre-1882 [1]
Charlene, first, congratulations on purchasing a German dictionary. This is a big step in unraveling a German ancestry and believe it or not, sometimes folks try to do the German genealogy without having a dictionary. So you've made a giant step forward. The second thing you might do is find a good map of Germany, circa 1880. To do this, check out Mike Pantel's website, on the worldgen project, http://worldgenweb.org/europe.html. Germany is, as you know, in CENTRAL EUROPE, CenEuroGen. Baden Wuerttember
9. [B-W] Reichardt and Elfers/near Berlin? [1]
Hello all! Does anyone here know anything about, or have connections to the surnames of Reichardt, and/or Elfers or Elvers? My paternal grandmother's parents were Lorenz Reichardt and Sophia Elfers, or Elvers. They came to northern Kentucky or southern Ohio in 1906, but split up a few years later, which inevitably lead to the placement of their four children in Catholic orphanages and homes near Cincinnati. Lorenz and Sophia are listed on Ohio census records as having been from Germany, but I don'

11. Re: question in [B-W] Anton SPAETH [1]
Regarding your question, Bruce, I sent this in about a week or two ago. I found this in a booklet at the library titled "Compilation of American and Canadian Passenger/ Emigration Registers" On page 7 there was a reference you might like to see, but unfortunately I failed to get the date of the book. It read: "Germanic Emigrants Register, P.O. Box 1720, 2840 Diepholz, Germany. A project involving the abstraction of the names of nearly one million men or boys residing in the former German Empire. 12. Re: [B-W] Re: Misspellings, etc. [1]
The reason for the variety of spellings complex; but is mostly exactly what you indicated... they are phonetic spellings... and it is because there were no rules for spelling in those days. It was just whatever the hearer heard is what he wrote. If the recorder changed in a document the spellings might also change. However in my families even the same researcher recorded different spellings. my JESSE family was spelled JESS, JESSE and JESSEN... and the different spellings might all be used in a single d

Those are 'f's they are long 's's. Early English and American writing used the long 's' also. Celia > I have a question about his letter... In my surname JESSE is it never > written with this symbol. It is written Jesfe, Jeffe ... with the German f > for s symbol... my keyboard cannot duplicate this... but I never see the B > for double ss symbol used. Why is this? Hi everyone, I want to especially thank Kathi on her narrative on Tubingen and to Dianne for posting about the Google search of images. I had forgotten that feature even though I use Google all the time. I did go the images feature and entered Tubingen Germany. The very first picture that comes up is a very famous, beautiful picture of the Nekar River and some lovely old houses that border it. A number of years ago my Uncle Russell Jenter made a trip to Tubingen on one of his joints through Germany

16. [B-W] Re: Areas of Germany [1]
Jill, One could start with the history of the regions of old Germany by visiting the German Genealogy webpage (http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html). It has a short historical writeup on each political region (including Swabia, which no longer exists, but is the dialect of German spoken in the B-W region). BTW, there are many other tools for the German genealogy researcher there. At 04:00 AM 6/13/03 -0600, you wrote: >From: Jill Fender >To: "'BADEN-WURTTEMBERG-D@root

Hello! I am new to German research, but both my husband and I have ancestors from there. I am currently searching for ancestors of George SANTEE (adopted) and Maria FALK. They left Baden-Baden to come to America and settled with family in Ohio in 1882. George and Maria left Europe on a French ship, which developed trouble at sea. The passengers were transferred to a passing English ship to continue to New York. George and Maria had their 6 month old daughter with them. Carolina (known to us as "Le

21. Re: [B-W] Why would passengers from Baden be called "Wirtumbergers"? [1]
Carole Cook, I did not see any one place on that website that called all of the people on the ship, Chesterfield, as being "Wirtumbergers". Perhaps I did not look carefully enough. As you noted, several of the passengers on that list are apparently from Baden. If you click on the top of page button "Sources" you will find all of the passenger lists on this website are copied from many sources, some of which are Baden Sources. Gary T. Ruth, Congratulations on your success. And a big thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. I'm saving this for my 3rd cousin, who left this morning on vacation. We have had success with our common branch. She's always saying I tell such good family stories, but she wants proof. Now you relate how the stories led you to the proof. That proves my point - without knowing the facts, you start with the stories. I'm printing out your success story to re-read when I get discouraged with my moth
