For those of you who are researching family from Sintana, Romania
(formerly Sanktanna, Hungary) I recently had great success by contacting
the Sintana HeimatOrtsGemeinschaft (HOG) Association. After all these
years and many many hours looking at FHL films trying to find a link to
my grandfather, the Sintana HOG sent me information going back five
generations! I also received many of my forefathers siblings as well.
Following on a suggestion by Dave Dreyer, I found the email address for
the chairman of th
I'm researching for Konrad ancestors who lived and died in Erseg in the Banat.
The index of church records submitted by Anton Kramer shows that church
records exist in the State Archives in Timisoara for Erseg from 1836 to 1937,
the period I'm researching. I'm looking specifically for the DEATH DATES if my
paternal grandfather and grandmother who lived there and very likely died
there between 1890 and 1900. Their names are:
Joseph Konrad, born 1838 and
I thought I'd pass this on to our BANAT list since it had so many
surnames I remember seeing mentioned on our Banat group. Hope someone
can make that link backwards to pre-Banat.

I am researching my family name Gonczy / Gonczi / Gonczyi. Peter Gonczy
came from a town called Goncruszka, Hungary. He immigrated to the USA in
about 1882 and later to Canada in about 1886. Any info anyone could
provide would be most helpful.
Mary Ann,
I must have missed the post of the maps you are talking about from
Robert. Would you please send me the URLs for them.
The best maps I have found so far were at
http://home.t-online.de/home/flacker/
The north, middle and south 1940 maps are terrific..big enough to
actually read. The spellings all in German...as are the village records
and books, so they work well with most of our researching.
I printed out all three, and taped them together..great tool.

Aanton Kraemer published in Sindelfingen in 1991 a Familienbuch
on Ulmbach. If anyone has this book I would be most grateful for a
look-up to obtain information on the parents of Mathias Rettinger,
*26-10-1739 in Ulmbach, +06-06-1799 in Ulmbach. The other name that is
part of my family tree is Anna Ktharina Stein, *22-11-1744 in Ulmbach,
+09-01-1790 in Ulmbach. It seems that a big part of the population of
Umlbach moved to Stefansfeld in the early 1800's.

John: A group of us Mramorak Donauschwaben from the US, Canada & Germany
took a trip by bus from Germany through Austria and Hungary. It was called
"On the Trail of the Donauschwaben" organized by Oswald Hartmann and we went
through many old Donauschwaben villages that still exist just like they were
many years ago. The trip was great and we visited with the Donauschwaben
people in their Donauschwaben Clubs in Hungary and Austria. We went through
the village, Paks, on our way from Budapest to Pecs, but I ca
I am new to the rootsweb e-mail list and am wondering if anyone knows
if Romanian phone books are available anywhere. I am interested for
the area of San Andrei, just north of Timisoara.

Does anyone in the group know how to wire money to a bank in Germany?
I am purchasing a Genealogy book which will be sent to me upon payment.
I have the name of the bank and Location - the Postbank in M|nchen.
I have the telephone number of the bank.
I have the name of the person.
I have his account number at the bank.
What else is necessary since there are no routing numbers in European Banks.
Thank You

Elayne;
There was a Frank Klavinger from Lovas/Syrmein living in the North
Dakota Banat colony in Dunn Co. According to his naturalization papers
he was born 1 Apr 1878 and came to the U. S. in 1900. Do you know who
this is? Is he your guy? How did he get mixed up with all those
Banaters?

John Movius has recently posted a discussion of some aspects of the EWZ
(Einwandererzentral Stelle) microfilms, which were part of the Berlin
document center records, on the FEEFHS website. There are 1964 rolls of
EWZ film now available from the FHL in Salt Lake. After reading the
discription of these records, one suspects that they may not be very
useful for identifing immigrants to America but they may be useful for
locating relatives of American Banaters now living in Germany.

Dear Group:
While researching Modosch records I've run across family names from two
nearby towns -- Csavos (maybe a "z" on the end") and Oregy.
Are these names familiar to anyone on the list?
These are both mentioned in 1822-34 records. Where could I locate a map of
that era that might list these towns?
Thanks so much.

June and all,
If you think there is a problem with the list one suggestion you can try is
to go to the list archive site and search for the date that you think there
were messages for. For example to look for messages from "16 Feb 1999":
Go to:
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
Enter the 'banat' as the list to search. Then when the query comes up
enter the date IN QUOTES as "16 Feb 1999" or what ever date you are
searching for. Pick the correct year and the search button. You will

Hi Sarah:
I'm very sorry about my delay to answer you but I have been on vacations and
on the other hand I was looking for some more information.
Regarding Franz and Katharina's family I found them.
It seems that Sebastian and Norma are living in the same building but
different condos in Wilde (there is a town in greater Buenos Aires).
In this building Norma has three condos ( there are registered at her name)
but I don't know where she lives.
Franz and Noemi are living in Quilmes ( a town close from Wild
Does anyone have any information about the SPECKMILLER family of the Banat? I
recently learned that my grandfather's (ANTON MUTH, 1883, GROSSJETSCHA) mother
was KATHERINE SPECKMILLER. His father was PETER MUTH.
Thanks.
Does anyone know where I can get these books? I have written to several
places with no success.

Dear List Members,
Could someone guide me to a source to find out if the town of Csavos has a
Familienbuch? My research is taking a slight twist from Modosch to Csavos
given the frequency of my family's name "Jacobi" in Csavos (from FHC
microfilms).
I'm not sure how to track down a Familienbuch for the town of Csavos -- if
it exists -- and need a little help. Sorry if this is a rudimentary
question, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks!
