Guenter Junkers asked about the document Jean has been trying to decipher:
Jean's message says that it is a marriage record from 1899 from Dombovar,
and says that an ancestor's name appears on the line after the phrase "mint

marriage certificate from Nagyszentmiklos, Torontal varmegye), and I believe
the printed portions of my certificate are the same as the printed portions
of Jean's.
The document is headed on the first page with "H

There is a website where you can post requests, called the Wisconsin Internet

* FRENCH VILLAGES IN BANAT *
By 1788 there were 104 villages populated by German colonists,
including 6 which were predominantly French. These villages were
Charleville, Gottlob, Heufeld, Masztort, St.Hubert, and Soltur.
Sadly, though many heard from relatives that their ancestors were
French, the name was often changed at the registration in Vienna
and after a few generations they spoke French no more.

Craig,
My husband Steve (Stephan Zeiger) was born about 8 kilometers from Detta. In
1930. They moved to Detta abt. 1934 and left in 1944.
Detta's population at that time was about 4000 of wich about 80% were
Germans.
Detta is located 42 kilometers south of Timisoara - Temesvar - Temeschburg.

When we reported for dinner at 12:00 sharp, we were informed that dinner

You might be interested in reading a book by Bela Kalman called "The world
of names :
a study in Hungarian onomatology." It's a wonderful discussion of Hungarian
names and naming customs. There is a good discussion of the traditional use
of -y endings in the names of noble families. Karoly is the Hungarian form
of Charles -- the "ly" is a "digraph" or single letter formed by combining
two letters. In Hungarian dictionaries LY is treated as a separate letter
which comes between the letter L
Hello Alex,
Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us, although I have never been
there, it is where my grandparents lived. It helps me understand more about
the people and the area. My grandparents died while I was still young and
they did not get the chance to tell me all the things that I wanted to know.
They lived in a small village called Kiskoros, South of Budapest and west of
the Danube. I live on the farm that my grandparents lived on and he left his
Hungarian touch, the orchard and the grape
I have a word that has what looks like a letter Z with a slash through
it at the beginning and end of this word. The record is a civil record
from 1899 Dombovar Hungary.

At least ten years ago, I researched branches of my family that were

To all who wrote concerning ship papers. Ron wrote that you get only
the page your ancestor was listed on which is true. I was able to get my
Grandmother's page from her passage on the Coronia, which left from Fiume
also. I got the info from indexed cards which were on file in the Allen
County Library in Ft. Wayne, Ind. You look up the number by the Soundex
system and then locate the card which bears a number. This number can be
sent to the National Archives on a special form and if they locate the

Dear LIst
I have learned that before passing along the dozens of virus warnings which
daily circulate around the world, that perhaps it is better to check them out
via some authority before doing so. Most of these are hoaxes, and there is a
site which does a good job of describing how hoaxes are detected, and who
determines when there really is a threat. A great site for doing this is
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html
which is part of the Symantec (leading manufacturer of anti virus soft

Due to the volume of e-mails I received from all of you who didnt use

attended a Hockey game, when they played the National Anthem. I have my

If you haven't gotten a ships passenger list from the National
Archives, that would be a good start.
My great grandparents came to America on the Carpathia in late
December 1905, arriving in Jan 1906 and I found a bunch of information
that way.

It has been a long time. I read the postings every day hoping to see familiar places or names.
I am looking for information on the names:

HENGER and HORN - are from the Senntena area.
Any help would be appreciated.
