Linda, Just a thought. Could it be that the person referred to was in the u.s. prior and never naturalized. My great grandparents came to the U.S. and later went back to Europe returning again later. Maybe this person travelled out of country and was returning again. Charles - There is a Haupersweiler in the Saarland, a Herschweiler and Greimerath in Rheinland-Pfalz. I see no Trierschen in my modern-day map, but it may have been swallowed up by metropolitan Trier. I have returned from Germany from a Treffen held in Spaichingen, Germany for the Town of Ernsthausen and Sartcha Banat where I got some very good news and found family members and frieds. I took ove rthe photographs that I had accummulated and tehy were a big hit that where I found a person who recognized her uncle and it was my great Uncle in-law plus people who knew my great grandparnets plus who gave me some great information. I was to attend the Treffen the week of 18-19 May just outside of Nuremburg but I was taken ill and in the hospital in Schleswig, Germany and unable to attend. Unfortunately, I doubt very much that, some of your Fischer relatives are still in Werschetz. The German part of the town had been converted into a concentration camp for the German population in 1945 for several years. From there, if they had not died, they went to all parts of the world, as stateless refugees, mainly to Austria and Germany. A note on the meaning of "aus dem Trierischen": this means, in the region near Trier. In the case cited, the information "von Greimart = Greimerath" also appears, this is the name of village. They were supposed to let me know the names of the towns in Banat & Batschka they were from, but they did not. All I have is their addresses in Germany which may not be of very much help to us. Last month while visiting relatives in Budapest, I was lent a book on the Hungarian 101 military group that fought on the Russian, Italian, and maybe French front during World War I. The book contains battles fought, soldiers who died, and a biographical sketch of most of the soldiers plus a photo of the soldier. The book is not complete but is as complete as possible. For anyone considering trips to Rumania this year: According to the Hermannstaedter Zeitung of 25.April.1997 one is allowed to take into or out of Rumania, up to 500,000 lei. Using the present rate of exchange this is equivalent to approximately $70 US (7080 lei/$1) or approx. $98 Can (5130 lei/$1). The previous maximum was 100,000 lei.
