Jim;
In my research in Hungary, the Serbs were always called Rascians (different spellings). So I assume that is a Hungarian word for the word Serb. The Serbs call themselves SRB (singular) SRBI (plural).

Hello Banat Listers:
Today I was searching Ellis Island on my lunchbreak, and found a glaring

Passenger Leanardo Marandola travelling on ship SARNIA from Naples, Italy to

I have sent a message to Ellis Island staff, to let them know about this.
Just a word of caution when

So far, there are six of us going. We are trying to sort out accommodation for everyone who will be coming, so that we can all stay
together. Although this is not a professionally planned tour, but rather 'off the cuff', we hope to have some final plans before we
depart, which will include some group activities and evening dinners together.
Group 1 will try to visit as many of the following villages as possible: Mercydorf, Skt Andreas, Lenauheim, Orzydorf, Neubeschowa,
Brucknau, Fibisch, Blumenthal, Billed

Dear Listers,
I recently wrote to a Ms. Elisabeth Gassmann regarding a Weisskirchen Familienbuch I thought she was working on. She replied that she isn't, but gave me some info that may lead to a break in my Klipsch brick wall.
She also asked for any info on Weisskirchners that had emigrated.....well, let me just put her letter here, and perhaps some of you can provide her with information, ok?

Mary;
It is unlikely that you will find the names of the Klemm kids in the
naturalization records, Jacob Klem took out naturalizations papers before
such data as the names and birth dates of the kids was required in the
naturalization records.
You should be able to find a database of the ND Banaters in ND
naturalization records at rootsweb.com if the links still work.

Curiosity drove me to check out the message archives on the BANAT list and the rest is history, of sorts---
My PAULIN family oral history has it that our forebears left western Germany (area of Trier/Moselle valley?) sometime around 1810 to escape French occupation under Napoleon. The family name there may have been PAULIN or POLEN. They immigrated to Austro-Hungary, where the surname may have remained PAULIN or changed to that from POLEN. Eventually the family settled in what is now Slovenija, and the

Dear List Members,
I have never quite understood what kind of information can be found in the Stader Books. Can someone please enlighten me?
And, in order to have someone do a look-up for me, what information do I have to provide beyond the family name for the Banat or Batschka family?
Also, as I do understand that these sources exit only up to certain letters of the alphabet, I don't know up to what letters Mr. Stader completed this clearly invaluable work before his death. In other words, up to wh
I use AOL version 9.0 for broadband and have no trouble at all with the

It's a great site.

Fellow Banat Listers...
The 'Direct Links' to the subscription pages are up now. Click the link in
the navigation bar and a new browser window will open up. Read the guide
information on the new window.
Please let me know if you have any problems.
Some people are wonding if the Kalenders are only for the people from the

I have had an extensive amount of research conducted by Sorin over the last year or so for the Hirsch family who resided in the Sanktanna/Pankota/Galsa area. In addition to the Hirsch line he collected information on the Gantner, Kammerle, Hauptman, and Kober families. All of these families were from the same area and were of the Catholic religion.
In regard to the Hirsch family, he was able to trace back to Joannes Hirsch, who was born in Gyula, Hungary on July 20, 1768. We believe that his parents were

birth and death records for around 1800s. I have been researching BANAT for so

I am now starting to work on my wife's family and we have the city of Meissen

I am trying to find the parents of Anna Klem who married Martin Lindeman on January 16, 1899 in Richardton, ND. Is anyone researching the Klems or does anyone have access to records that might give the parents of Anna. I have traced the Lindemann's back to approx. 1750 and am very willing to share the info I have found.

Dear Banat Listers,
Are there any members of the Banat List who use AOL as their internet
provider. If so, I would like to know if you are having problems with
seeing the images on the DU-Kalender website.
Some members have indicated that they have a problem. If you are not having
problems and you use AOL, please tell me what version and what kind of
computer you have.
Please forward any email to me directly so I can determine what the problem
may be.
Thank You

Hello Group..
I have just learned that a Great-Aunt of mine was a "Godmother" to a distant cousin. This cousin and her brother were named by (and for) my Great-Aunt and her husband.
Since my Great-Aunt and her husband .. and the children's parents were all born in the Banat (Temesvar area), I wonder just what exactly was meant by the relationship "Godparent" in the Banat..???
Hope someone can give me some clues..

I have ordered from him before, but not this video.

Yes!
> Is the film worth the cost???
Hard to say, each person can have their own opinion. For me, it was a film I
wanted and it could not be found anywhere else, at any price.

Merci, Charles,
I am reasonably certain that the Dupont come from Lorraine, but are they
all direct descendants of Joannes Dupont, * ca. 1748 in Tellin,
Lothringen, +09.04.1805 Triebswetter?
When did they emigrate? Are they listed in Vienna on their way to the
Banat? I am hoping that somebody has access to documents (Stader book?)
that will fill in some of the details?!
Salutations,
Nicolas

Yes ... it IS so fascinating to read the names and the dates that go so
far back and know that - had they not existed - we simply would not be !!!
(There's a country song that goes ... "All because two people fell in love
...)
Looks like I've started a stampede !!!
It was getting too quite on the List anyway ... No apologies from this
girl ... I'm not through with the rest of my names either ... just trying
to digest a little at a time
The very generous Mr. Stader must be smiling contentedly a
