Question: What was the role/responsibility of the individual named as the BONDSMAN on early marriages (I have several in NC)? Was there in fact a monetary bond posted in relation to the marriage license? I am looking form information on the family of Pernal Barringer born 1856, died 1932. She lived in Sprout Brook, NY and married Charles T. Wikoff. They had at least two children C. I like the idea of everyone posting their most unusual place they found the info or any stories, maybe someone has been searching for their family for years and then suddenly they found it right under their nose....the one place they didn't even think of! I can go no further back with my genealogy than Catherine Barringer. She was born around 1744 maybe. She married Martin Herche/Harkey. >From that point on I have genealogy and descendants. Catherine and Martin Harkey lived in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Co. NC They belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church. Hi everyone--My BARRINGER line consists of one person (to date)-- Caroline BARNINGER/BARRINGER was born 1826, somewhere in PA (probably the Luzerne/Columbia Co. area). In 1843 she married Samuel Lewis WERTS at her father's home in Conyngham, Luzerne Co. There are a number of BARINGERs listed in that part of PA at that time, but no way to ascertain who was her father. Also, the NC BARRINGERS were in that area before they headed down to NC, so I think she may be linked to them, but, so far, no proof. Any he
