Hi Jasper,
Yes, I show over 600 in the FTM SS Death Index.
Can you be a little more specific with a particular name of someone you
are looking for, or a state of birth or death, or a time period?
Thanks,

Good morning to all of you:
Recently, I made some mention of the possibilities of DNA.,The next and
latest technology avaiable to find our true ROOTS.
I mentioned how wonderful the blessing of E-Mail was to us, with just the
click of a mouse it saved us having to put a stamp on a snail mail and
wonder what happened to it.
Since that time I have found out a little more about DNA.Some of you
asked about it and I think I gave some of you a telephone # to call if
you were interested. I have since determined
Jim and other list subscribers,
Concerning the DNA Y study let's restate some project information,
goals, and limitations...
First let me say that we are all new to this type of genealogy, so no
one has a corner on understanding or information. We are all learning
together. The science of Genetics itself can be very technical and
dauntingly mathematical. We are laymen so we have to try and present DNA
genealogy in a way that is usable and understandable for all interested
parties. In my humble opinio

Pearlys father was John Lafayette Beard b. 1838 DuBois Co IN son of Samuel Beard b. 1818 DuBois Co. IN. Is anyone else researching this family?

Hi Katy,
I posted your information in several places on-line, including on our

I hope someone might turn up who knows something more about your line.
The DNA "Y" (male only) test that Frederick mentioned is very new, but
it is said that these tests can help researchers get past a "brick wall"
in their genealogy research, but it is no panacea. It can help determine
the probability of a common ancestor between two lines (but not the

Do you have any Look-Up books or CDs that you can post to the list?

If you wish to participate in this look-up program, please send a plain
text list of the look-up books and CDs you have in your possession, to
me and to each of the BARD, BAIRD and BEARD mail lists. Each list
administrator should keep a master list of the look-up titles. I'll also
keep a master list, re-post periodic updates, and eventually, if we get
enough participation, post the master list to the Web.
If possible, please list your look
I am posting about the Baird surname. I am a Baird descendant and have
not been able to get past a Samuel Baird born in 1814 in Ohio. His
census for 1880 says his father was born in NJ and mother in NY. A
cousin of mine says Samuel's father's name was Obediah Baird. My great
uncle sent me some information that my great grandpa told him. We have a
grant parent named Francis Randolph Baird that was a general in the
British Army who fought the dutch in the West Indies, he married a girl
named Mary who l

Thanks for including me in this initial discussion of genetic

Hi Lettie,
I checked the Social Security Death Index and came up with: nothing.
None of these people appear.
Leanora W. Bard d. 1930 (and others) are unlikely to appear because the
SS Death Index database starts at 1937, so probably they were all too
early to be included.
(Also see other comments below).
I'll try another database tomorrow.
Perhaps someone else on the list has some info about these Bards / Weils.
P.S.: Lettie, Please don't forget to post your look-up titles to the
list too.

Fred,
I am not sure I see the benefit for those trying to trace back lineage,
as opposed to those trying to establish migration patters or
geographical
origin of remote ancestors (Vikings vs Northern Mediterranean, etc).
Much depends on the statistical assumptions and the algorithms used
for the computations, of course, and the more testing done the more
precisely these will become known and the more accurate the
estimates emerging.
Details may be found on the links from:

There was a set of twins born to Margaret Zerilda Beard m. Samuel H McClanahan. Mary E. Bessie and Jessee McClanhan b 1879. possibly in Illinois. Bessie died in St Francois County MO where most of my Beards settled.
Who was Robert Beards father and grandfather?
Marie
Curtis,
Thanks so much for the offer.
I'm searching for B.P. BEARD/BAIRD/BEAIRD/BARD found living in Colleton Co, South Carolina in 1852. He married Annie CAMPBELL around the same time. His father-in-law William CAMPBELL was his neighbor.
Got a Barnwell Preston... Barney, Barny, or B.P.?
I could not find him in the US prior to the 1852 land record. I really think he must have immigrated around the same time, but haven't found records to support this idea (yet).
Always Searching,

I'm very happy that you and Kathy are showing some interest in DNA

Hi Lettie and list,
I checked the FTM 1340-1980 Selected U.S. / Inter. Marriage Records CD for:
Leanora W. BARD and did not find her.
But I did find these other BARDs, some with marriage dates:
(Maybe one of them will fit in for you or someone else on the list.)
More data is available for each of these marriages, if anyone is interested.
