1. ITELET, Casco WI 1856 [1]
Hello all, I recently received some info on my ancestor JEAN BAPTISTE ITELET, b 1799 Meux Belgium. He came to the USA with this wife Therese Denis b 1809 Rhisnes Belgium, in 1856 and they settled in Casco WI. Does anyone have access to the 1860 WI census (or 1870, 1880 to see if they had any children? Any and all info on the family would be appreciated. I had believed that my Greatgrandfather was the first Hittelet (various spellings) to come the USA in 1896- I guess I was wrong. Thank you in advance
2. Prayer cards or bidprentjes [0.979194]
Hi folks! <<<<>>>> Are these the same as what we in the USA call Holy Card (if you're Catholic)? I collect them, especially those produced before WWI and those that are surrounded be a die-cut (sometimes called lace). The die-cuts can become quite complex and 'interact' with the lithographed image. There are a number of collector, one of us Brent DEVITT (the name is Irish not French!) has a web-site at: http://members.xoom.com/bjdevitt/ Check out his Reference section for books on H

Hi Georges. Point of information. Please don't get mad at me as everybody else does lately. Moorsel has one and also a lady in black who walks around to collect money in a basket. "Stoelgeld" as we used to say. Money for the use of the chair. Do you remember when people were allowed to bring in their own chair? They were usually with a soft seat. If you sat on that chair and the owner walked in late you had to get off. That has changed now. Just a little trivia of what we had to put up with when I was a

6. Politics, linguistic issues [0.979194]
Pls do only reply in private to me on this issue ------------------------------------------------ Before leaving for Brazil we had 639 pariticpants. When I returned, the number had dropped to 614. The reason is simple: much quibbling had gone on. I regret that mature people can't cope with these subjects, which are indeed part of the Belgian heritage. The real problem is that whenever somebody writes a good article or asks an honest question about it, things immediately get out of hand. It is always hard

9. Egidius [0.979194]
I shall appreciate knowing if their is an anglicization of the given name of Egidius. I see that name frequently in many lines of my family and am curious. Also, could the abbrevation Joys/Joiis be Joseph? I am having a difficult time as it is translating the Latin and the olde European style handwriting, but that abbreviation of a given name has me a bit stumped. Your help shall be appreciated. 12. SPLIT THE LIST? [0.979194]
Some years ago following a discussion about our family roots-with a bit of the history of Belgium thrown in- my youngest son, then about 14 yrs old said, "Gee Whiz mom, you and dad have acomplished in a short time what Belgium is still struggling with..THE PERFECT BELGIAN, ME!" He then proceeded to prance around as 14 yr olds raging with testosterone are wont to do. But, he was right. Between my husband and I we're a little West Flanders, a little East Flanders; we have ancestors from Namur, Brabant, and Hai

In the USA census of 1850, he stated he was from Prussia. I don't know if he was born there, or just had lived there. His wife,Gertrude Catherine Brugge/Braggemia, must have felt very German because the family story goes she would only go to German stores and churches. I am sorry I can't give information further back.
