1. RE: [BEL-R] VERBEKE ~ Looking Forward to Starting [1]
I have been researching VERBEKES for several years. All my VERBEKE ancestors are from the Watervliet, Waterland-Oudeman, Boekhoute and Bassevelve area. I also have some VERBEKE names from West Flanders. I found the West Flanders names but they were not my ancestors. If you could send me some names you are checking I will be happy to check everything I have. Greetings to Ivan Beernaert from the state of California, a part of the United States which is located in the southwestern part of America. Today it is a beautiful day here in this southern part of the state of California. My grandfather came here from the Netherlands during the month of October 1890. This occurred almost 110 years ago. When these ancestors of mine, Petrus and his new bride Melanie, first arrived here in the states, they must have found it to be a beautiful place to stay. My gra

Be sure to go with someone-else. The neighborhood is terrible. (I grew up two blocks from their), but you need to know where you are going. I was down their 2 yrs. ago for an Aunts funeral, and you don't want to go along. Hello Sue , Here a little information on your research Van de Keere : My great grandfather Louis Hoste was married to Joanna Theresia Van de Keere in the little village of Sint- Laureins Sept. 13-1841. His father Georgius (Jooris) Van de Keere and mother Francisca Laurreijs lived in Sint-Margreit for some time. There are four children that I have found so far. 6. RE: [BEL-R] RAMBLINGS [0.979737]
When I make waffles I use the Pound recipe. 1 pound of butter/margarine is 454gr. With 1000gr to 1Kg, I suppose you should use 9 sticks of margarine I think you would do better to look for one of those European style measuring cups. I found one at Meijers. I bet Walmart carries them too. The outside of the cup marks the different weights' measure for different ingredients. Of course, 1lb of sugar will take up less room than 1lb of flour. Still, I'm not sure about the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) There

11. [BEL-R] Military Uniform [0.979737]
I have in my family records a photograph of a military man, I believe from the First World War, which appears to have been taken in England (U.S.A. Studios London & Provinces). On his upright collar is an old-fashioned plumed helmet with the strap hanging down (rather like I believe French firemen wear). Has anyone any idea whether it is likely to be a Belgian uniform, or French? On his shoulder is a pair of wings joined by a ring or wheel and on his sleeve five stripes, presumably for his rank, which

16. [BEL-R] Military Uniform [0.979737]
Many thanks to all the kind people who responded to my enquiry about a photo in my archives. It seems that he was definitely Belgian (when I thought he might be French) that he was an engineer, working on the railway, for a long period in the trenches/at the front. I did not realise when I prepared my note that I was sending it out on 11th November and many people answered on Remembrance Sunday, 12th. Having watched the processions on TV it all now seems rather appropriate. Merci bien/Dank u wel Tom
