7. [BRK] Windsor tailors [1]
My g g g grandfather was a member of a family of tailors in Windsor from c.1830 - 1927. There's two questions I'd love to know the answer to - one straightforward - the other not so. Firstly, could anyone tell me how long an apprenticeship my g g g grandfather would have had to serve ? He seems to have worked for his uncle, who I believe was the founder of the business. The second question is this. Being in Windsor, I can't help wondering if the firm ever numbered members of the royal household among th

Peter, This Removal order has been recorded in Vol.5 of the Berkshire Overseers Papers which have been put onto Fiche by Berkshire FHS See their web site www.berksfhs.org.uk That entry does not give any more information than Barbara gave you, but there are other DAYs mentioned which may link into your family. Hi Has anyone heard an expression used for a cup that has lost its handle Polly Cup might not be spelt that way. My mother's grandmother of Berkshire Wiltshire extraction used the saying and I wondered if this was something she learned from her parents as I haven't heard of it's use in Australia before. bye Janice.

23. Re: [BRK] Re:Polly Cup [1]
The thing about the cow clicked in my head. Removing a cow's horns is called Polling (prounouced as in Polly) indeed there is a breed of cow called a Red Poll, which is born without horns, and it probably comes from the same thing as pollarding willow trees, i.e. chopping off the top growth to produced thin new growth for making baskets. Perhaps it comes from a word meaning something chopped off??? Sarah Fegredo Nottingham UK ----- Original Message ----- From: "gwen" To:
