Hi Listers
While visiting England last Xmas, we visited Grove where some of my
husband's ancestors originated from. We were looking for the Parish
Church but only found quite a new church, opened I think about 1965.
However there were old tombstones in the graveyard surrounding the
church.
The Gazetteer at the LDS says that the Grove Parish Church was built in
1832 and a previous church, repaired, is used as a national school.
Does anyone know what happened to the church that was built in 1832?
Cheers

Thanks

Dear Judith
I assume that you know there is no connection between Portsea Hampshire and
Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and Hampshire and you are posting this message
as a 'long shot' to try to trace
this family.
What information do you have in respect of your G Grandfather, what was his
name, when was he born/baptised, do you have his Birth Certificate, have you
found him in the 1881 Census?
I have a copy of the 1881 Census and will be quite happy to see if I can
find him for you. If you can find him th
I do research in America from here in England. you can send one of your
normal cheques from your chequebook but write the amount in dollars, the
American banks will accept this. However there is a charge for doing this,
my daughter lives in the USA and I believe she said they charged her about 7
pounds for the conversion. so it makes research quite expensive. I have
investigated all ways to get around it and haven't come up with anything so
far. Could you pay by credit card? I should think even then there
Sue,
Sarah Frewin LEECH was not baptised at Wantage. It looks as if you were
quoting from the GRO index, which means the baptism could be anywhere in the
Wantage Registration District, which is a large area which covers many
villages around Wantage.
Your only option is to purchase a birth certificate.

Dear Joy,
I read with interest your post to the list and especially your
reference to the name of POCOCK. I originally came from England, and one of
my best friends growing up there was a girl named Margaret Pocock. Its not a
common name, so I was wondering if maybe as you were originally from Oxford,
which is very close to my home town of Cirencester, that maybe these Pococks
are connected to your fathers family. I can ask my sister to speak to
Margaret and get some information on her father w
