During a recent research trip in Georgia I came across the following book
"The Cross of Military Service". It contains the history and records of
men of lineal Confederate descent who served honorably in the Army, Navy or
Marine Corps of the United States or its allies during the period of WW I
(6 April 1917 - 11 Nov 1918) and covers most states, north and south. It
was edited and compiled for the United Daughters of the Confederacy in
1927.
I found it available at two libraries: DeKalb County P
Just found this in our newspaper.

Audrey Black, 90; Medical secretary, campaign aide to Maureen O'Connor
Audrey Black had no political experience or agenda when she joined
maureen O'Connor's first campaign for public office in 1971.
But as a role model and mentor, Mrs. Black offered invaluable support.
"Audrey was a mentor and friend to every young person she met," said
O'Connor, who was elected to the City Council in 1971 and served as mayor
from 1986 to 1992
This is the first info request I have every sent. Hope I am doing it
okay....Looking for any info on Frederick Joseph Black(my .ggrandfather) and
his brother William Francis Black. They were the sons of Samuel Robert
Black, Greenbrier Co, WV. Frederick Black married Rebecca Benson before

they had seven children. Will married a Pamelia Lovell of Brattlebere, VT
and had four children,William, Arthur, Robert, and Alice. The original
My grandfather, Robert Wasson Black was born January 8, 1870, in Nova Scotia, Canada. All I know of his
ancestors are parents named J. William Black, and Sara(h) Elizabeth Andrews. He married Lillie May Wilbur of
New Brunswick, Canada, and had children named Pauline, Mildred (died in infancy), Harry E., Helen and Evelyn
Marie (my Mother)
His siblings were 1) Martha Jane b. Aug. 20, 1857, m. Joe Hurlburt; 2) James William b. May 19, 1859, lost
Sep. 8, 1877 on fishing trip to Grand Banks; (3) Abbie Ida b.
In the earlier communique I sent out requesting info on Thomas Marion Black, I neglected to include the marriage date of Thomas Marion Black and Mary Lucretia Artman. This date was February 6, 1879.
Evidently, they were living in Bullitt Co., KY and left from there to move to Missouri.
Thanks again for any help anyone can give. Jackie

Greetings fellow seekers,
Do any of you have information concerning members of the Black family
that moved into Southern Illinois in the early 1800's? Most likely, they
would have come up from Tennessee.
Thanks

In your message pertaining to Peter Black, you also mention a Douglas Black
who lived for a time in Decatur County, Georgia. I am trying to track down
DECATUR BLACK who bought land in Arkansas County, Arkansas around 1898. The
census stated that he was from North Carolina. Could there be a relation, or
just coincidence?
