I have in my notes on the family of William Black, died 1781 (age 56),
married Martha Gillespie and came to America in 1730 settling in Pa. the
information came from the autobiography of The Rev. James Boyce, whose
father was Samuel A. Boyce and mother, Deborah, d/o John Black, Sr.
William Black was his mother's immigrant ancestor.
Perhaps the book "The Black Family of Carrabus County, NC and Abbeville,
SC" will clear this up (or add to the confusion!).
If someone has access to the book maybe they can
Does anyone know whether Thomas Osborne
Black, b. abt. 1752 NC/SC, d. abt. 1831 Hancock
Co., KY, m. Sophia Gassoway Springs abt. 1777,
links to "Wm. Black, Ireland to America"? Our limited
info suggests he does.
Supposedly "our" Blacks emigrated from Ireland
with Gillespies and Osbornes to PA in the relevant
time period and portions of all 3 families went south
togethor to the Carolinas before the Revolution.
Our source kind of thought that Thomas Osborne
Black was a grandson of a Thomas Black who had

He married Alice Fleming. They probably lived somewhere around Kings

Please email me if you have run across this name.

Need information on Anna Black, b. 1851 and Margaret Black, b. 1846, living
1870 Worth County, Georgia in household of Green Black, b. 1826.
Green Black is s/o Douglass and Anna Black. Are these women his sisters?
Did they marry in Worth County?
Green Black married Mrs. Catherine Faircloth 21 Apr 1852, Baker County,
Georgia; lived in Worth County until ca. 1885, then moved to Citrus County,
Florida.
If anyone is connected to this family, I have a great deal of info and will
gladly share.

Hi Black Cousins
Has anyone heard of a book called "From Pioneer to Scientist" by Carl and
Bessie Black. This has the history ofGreen Vardman Black and his ancestors.
He was a nephew of my Thomas Gillespie Black. and the son of William Black
and Mary Vaughn. He was born in TN or IL. He served in the Army during the
Civil War and is considered the "father of modern dentistry." I have tried
to get this book on interlibrary loan but to no avail.
Any information will be appreciated. Thank You.
