Dont know whether this is connected but I am trying to trace an Unknown BLACK b. Ireland, father of John, Robert, Milton and Charlotte. His wife was Betsey b. 1790 VA and they show in the 1850 TN Census without the father. Milton later moved to Missouri and then settled in Illinois. My unknown BL

I'm sorry but we have no Johns in our line. But, there were many John Blacks in VA, I belive Augusta Co., in the 18th century. I found them in the "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia."

Your first step should probably be searching the records of the freedmen's bureau for SC. It's likely after freedom that he registered with them. One thing to keep in mind is that just because his owner's last name was Black does not mean you will find him under that name. If you can't find anything for Hezekiah B
