1. [BOER-WAR] Nominal List [1]
Hi Listers, This is my first submission to the list. I am researching John (Jack) Newstead from Dufferin Co., ON, who apparently fought in the Boer War. Does anyone have such a list and could check to see if Jack is on it. Thanks Margaret Calgary
2. [BOER-WAR] Beard [1]
I am trying to find my uncle Tom who served in the Boer-War. He lived and died at my home I have got a photo of him in the uniform of the Gloster Hussars but who is he. There are no records of Tom in the Glosters. He is buried as Thomas Henry not the correct name no record at PRO. If any one does have any info on Beards in the Glosters I would be interested regards Alf.

7. [BOER-WAR] 2nd Boar War - Benjamin BALL [1]
Dear listers Can anyone help me find details regarding my grandfather Benjamin Ball who fought in the 2nd Boar War and was something to do with horses. He was pensioned out with some sort of injury. He died in the early 1920s and his widow Elizabeth still received his pension. When he was buried his coffin was carried on a gun carriage to either Nunhead or Highgate where he was buried. He lived in Lambeth/Southwark. The army I believed paid for his funeral. They also offered a place at the Duke of Yo
8. [BOER-WAR] NATAL ROYAL RIFLES (REGIMENT) [1]
During 1945 a Lieutenant Colonel J Frazer was compiling a histrory of the Natal Royal Rifles - does anyone know what happened to this book/manuscript? My great grand father Srgt Henry Albert Barker was in this regiment. The regiment did not partake in the Seige of Ladysmith - however my grand father did and received a medal for the Seige of Ladysmith. Why was he in Ladysmith? Regards Mark mabarker@mweb.co.za
9. [BOER-WAR] Royal Sussex Regiment [1]
Hi My maternal grandfather, Joseph John RALPH, joined the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, at the age of just less than 16, in 1900, and served with them in the Boer War. I have posted messages on the "Sussex Plus", "Mariners" and "Ships" lists but without much in the way of positive feedback. Then yesterday I came across this list dedicated sepcifically to the Boer War. I understand from the County Archivist that the 3rd Battalion volunteered as a whole for service in South Africa, and 48

Hello Sally, I don't know if this is of any help, but perhaps you can try the War Museum in Bloemfontien. They might be able to help with info, or alternatively point you in the right direction. Their address is : museum@anglo-boer.co.za They were able to help us with info on our boer ancestors and apparently have records from 1848 and on the concentration camps and cemetaries, so may just have something for you. It's worth a try. They are very busy and have mimimal staff, so be patient with them - th

This request not directly connected with the Boer War but can anybody tell me how I can get information on the men who served with the RDLI? My husband's father, WILLIAM WARREN BELL, supposedly served under General Smuts in the South West Africa campaign. We have all his other military records. Hello Robert, You may also want to contact the Information offices in Ladysmith itself. My Mother-in-law lived in Farquhar Street that runs through the centre of town. Dear Gerda I have just received the copies you posted - am very excited and dying to get into them - but alas, the poor have to work! Gerda you have not mentioned what I owe you and I do not expect you to do this free for me. Please let me know what I owe you. Once again a VERY big thank you - as said have tried to get hold of this for such a long time now - and your kindness is much appreciated. 15. Re: [BOER-WAR] Nominal List [1]
Margaret, As far as I am aware there is no list as such. I think you will need to findout which regiment he belonged to. Having got that information yous hould, hopefully, find his service record at The Public Record Office at Kew (London, UK). If however, his army service extended into WW1 the situation will be alittle more complicated and his record may not be available or indeed have survived a fire which resulted from a WW2 bombing raid. Good luck in your hunt for him. Ken. -----Original Message---

I am seeking any information about William Power, a step-uncle of mine, who was in the British Army and served in the BOER WAR. 1 FACTS WHICH I KNOW TO BE TRUE ABOUT WILLIAM POWER. 17. [BOER-WAR] Normal minimum age [1]
Hi, My maternal grandfather, Joseph John RALPH, joined the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment in April 1900, and served in South Africa as a private in "D" Company. My mother says that he lied about his age in order to get in. Now the birth date I have for him is 20 June 1884 (yet to be confirmed because I haven't been able to trace his birth certificate) which would mean that he was just coming up to 16 in April 1900. I am wondering if perhaps he was younger than that, (and that's why I can'
