I have a large Bible published in 1895. Written inside is
the inscription, "Presented to William P. & Lizzie A. GROMO [or
GRONSO] by Uncle Joseph BOWMAN as a wedding present Feb 24
1896." There are also what might have been dried rose petals
between some pages, and a small newspaper clipping tucked in
the blank family record section that reads, "To Mr. & Mrs. J.E.
GROMO of Walton, Kas. Sept 5 1899, a daughter. To John W.

Hi,
My wife's Bowman's came from Heidelberg to Maryland in the early to mid
1700s, then moved to Pennsylvania, and eventually, to Ohio. I can track the
Heidelberg Bowman's back to Kirkoswald, Cumberland, England in the 16th
century. Can we possibly connect?

Hello, everyone. My family is descended from Josiah Nelson and Mary Bowman of
Knox County,IL. I remember attending one or two in the very early 1970s. I
believe that Mary Bowman's father was Joseph Bowman and he and his wife left
OHIO in the early 1850s by covered wagon to homestead in Nebraska, turned back
and ended up in Illinois. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks for any
help. Marge Vallazza
I couldn't say. About the Bowman family, I only know what I posted. Do
you have a clue that they might be related? I DO know for a fact that
her parents were NOT from Scandinavia. There are some Scandinavian
Bowmans in the area. Marge:)

Don't know whether there's a connection but there are some similarities in
our Bowman lines.
Earliest records I have of my Bowman is that Adam or Daniel Bowman was born
in Pennsylvania in 1772. Took his family to Muskingum County, Ohio around
1810. My Leonard Bowman and family went to Elkhart County, Illinois, about
1825, and to Iowa in 1847 - Madison and Shelby Counties.
Passed down lore has it that they were English but lore isn't always
factual.
