1. [BSFD] New discovery on IGI eg James BSFD mar Sarah DYSON 1822 [1]
Frank & other listers: If you do a search for BRANSFORD, you get variations of BRUNSFORD, BRAINSFORD, BRAYNSFORDE, BRONSFORT etc, all highly likely variations of BRAILSFORD, which don't come up when you search for BRAILSFORD & variants... esp in the areas outside DBY & NOTTS, where the name was not well known. You get 170 hits, so please, everyone, check out if you have family there, and let me know... esp if your ancestors were from London, LINCS, LANCS, YKS etc because there are a few there. Frank, We b

8. Re: [BSFD] A few more Brailsfords. [1]
Hi Frank, this is indeed interesting.. it is possible the first Elizabeth died, but not definitely... it was not uncommon to have two living children of the same name. There is certainly the spacing between children for this Elizabeth to have been born 1837, and so she was almost certainly born then rather than it being an error. 10. [BSFD] history of Merchant Taylors' School, MIDDX [1]
Dear Listers, I recently discovered a Website for the Merchant Taylors' School, Middlesex, at http://www.mtsn.org.uk/ My next email will discuss some previous students at MTS; but firstly, there is a detailed history of the School on their website, a snippet below: [begin quote] "The school was founded in 1561 by members of the Merchant Taylors' Company. The site of the original school was a manor house called the Manor of the Rose in the parish of St. Lawrence Pountney in the City of London. The school
11. [BSFD] A few more Brailsfords. [1]
Hi All, I was trying to look up the Fiche for St Mary's Church for Brailsfords from Worsborough but it is nigh on impossible. The writing is so faint and nothing I do will enhance it. But luck raised its beautiful head and I did manage to find one of my ancestors I was searching for but it also brought up a little puzzle. Anyway, the details are as follows. Fiche No Code No Date Name Born Father Mother Address Occupation PR3/6 279 16/06/1839

13. [BSFD] off topic - Merry Christmas wishes [1]
Dear List... Seasons Greetings! My constant work on the families of Brailsford brings me great pleasure. I find it very rewarding to make the smallest of breakthrough on behalf of Brailsfords worldwide & assist you where I can with your research. It has brought me very close to the Brailsford community of the world & I thank each of you for your part in bringing the Brailsford community together as an extended family through sharing your research. There is still so much to do, but please be assured that

15. [BSFD] interesting Will 1563/4 & help needed.. [1]
Here's an interesting Will transcribed recently & available at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brailsford/wills/w1564will.htm William, butcher of Chesterfield, died in 1563/4. His Will includes an interesting inventory, including quite a few Middle-English words requiring a glossary. I've had a go at that, but I'm certainly no expert. ******If anyone has further knowledge, I'd appreciate as much input into the glossary as possible********** Further, I have no idea who this William is, which is
16. Re: [BSFD] interesting Will 1563/4 & help needed.. [1]
Thanks to Chris & Kathy for some great info about old English words & Chesterfield PRs & others for some other ideas on who William was. The definitions I proposed in the glossary will certainly change, so watch out for an update! Note that a descendant of the Seynor BRAILSFORDs, Thomas BRAILSFORD of East Barkwith, (mar Ann SHEPLEY) held messuages and lands in Bolsover (came to the BRAILSFORDs from his GGgrandmother Elizabeth Smyth), at Chesterfield, and at Mansfield Woodhouse, possibly from other inherita
17. [BSFD] disaster [1]
Well, some of you who I have been promising some reports will be most distressed to hear that yesterday I had a major breakdown & lost 4 months of notes. That amounts to the records of approximately 2,000 Brailsford individuals & relationships. (It was a very productive 4 months.) Ouch. So I've decided now is as good a time as any to "take a break" & change my gedcom over to TMG. I'll be taking a bit of time to learn how it all works, and it'll probably be a number of weeks if not months before I can catch
18. Re: [BSFD] interesting Will 1563/4 & help needed.. [1]
The Will & glossary have now been further updated. Regarding the term "A cownter and asorun" I've now ammended this to read "A cownter and a forum" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brailsford/wills/w1564will.htm#glo4 I'm still not entirely convinced this is correct, but given the apparent absence of the word asorun in available definitions, it is certainly possible from the script that the "a" was a separate word. An "s" and "f" are very similar in this script, and the ending two letters were a li

24. [BSFD] Data from source doc'ts [1]
Hi again, As a separate issue to names connected within your research, I also keep a database that contains as much detail as is available, collected from source documents by fellow researchers. I frequently refer to this database when people post their "help" messages to noticeboards or the list. The files are far from comprehensive, as they simply include what other researchers have found and forwarded to me. They include... UK Census 1881 (complete) UK Census other years Births/Baptisms Marriages Death
25. [BSFD] Admin - thanks [1]
Hi everyone, I'm back from our holidays, and it's great to be home after lots of fun in the sun and surf at Brisbane & Noosa, Queensland, Australia. My youngest is off to school today for the first time, so I hope to have lots of time to spend on genealogy... (amongst all those other things that are outstanding)!! A big THANKYOU to Chris Booth, who has been acting as Administrator in my absence, and an equally big thankyou to all of our wonderful subscribers who continue to find information on BRAILSFORDs
