4. Rice Plantation, Georgia [1]
Hi "cousins" An article has been brought to my attention which has been transcribed and is available (by invitation) to be viewed on a myfamily.com site. The article is a wonderful account of a family in Georgia who owned and operated a rice plantation. Extract follows... "...The property located along the Altamaha River between Darien and Brunswick, was first acquired in 1806 by William Brailsford who moved to the Georgia Coast from Charleston to grow rice on a plantation he named Broadfield. After his dea

6. Intro - Kerrie [1]
Hi everyone I know that you have all heard from me before, but I thought perhaps I should tell a little about myself. I have been researching my maiden name BORDEN in Australia since I was 15 (nearly 20 years), but with more time off than on! This resulted in a database of 2935 individuals and 2115 families of descendants of my great great grandfather. I have now linked in with other people's research via internet research, which takes the name from USA to England back to 1066 and ties me in with common
7. Coneygree [1]
Hi Listers Browsing through my Brailsford file, it occurs to me that it's ironic that our Brailsford ancestor should be a rare example of an Anglo-Saxon lord retaining his property after the Norman invasion - and yet Coneygree, or Coney Green Farm, has recently been sold by Bowaters to a French company. Kind regards Joy
8. Bramley Apple [1]
Hi Rod, Thanks for your offer of looking into the Bramley Apple. Perhaps you could put that on hold until we hear back from Brenda. Then we will know if any follow up is required. I think Brenda was saying that she knows of a connection between the Bramley Apple and the family name of Brailsford. Is that right Brenda? Unfortunately we don't have Bramley Apples in Australia. I guess they're the best???? Kerrie
9. Brenda's note [1]
Dear Brenda, Thanks for the extra names, I'll send out an extra email this afternoon to those I missed. I received one slightly rude email back from those I tried to contact last time, and some I haven't heard back from at all. I hope I didn't offend too many people, because that certainly wasn't my intention, and I apologise now if anyone else thinks I have been unethical about this at all. So it might be just the eight of us for the time being. I don't know of "an email address for a Mrs Pat Pomeroy wh

I am willing to do look-ups of individuals if required. However note the caveats on the individual items below. The things I have are: 1881 UK Census for the whole UK on CD. I am in the process of transcribing the Brailsford surname entries from this vi
11. New Subscriber [1]
Hello everybody, I am a new subscriber to the Brailsford list. I am 50% Brailsford as that was my mother's maiden name. Her father was Ernest b1885 in the Mansfield District. His father was Charles Herbert b 1863 in Whitwell. His father was Edward b 1840 in E Retford who married Eliza from Whitwell probably about 1863. His parents appear to be Joseph & Martha who he was with in 1841, however , in 1851 he was with Hercules & Martha. He was christened as son of Joseph & Martha. I have found Hercules christene

As far as I know, the original "Bramley" apple tree was in the garden of a Bramley family in Southwell, Notts, near to Southwell Minster. I'm in touch with people researching the BRAMLEY's, if you're interested, I'll see if they have anything further. (Please contact me if you do, if not, I'll assume it's not required. A brief introduction. Firstly thanks to Kerrie for setting up this list. I have a very small connection way way back. A daughter of a Jeremy Brailsford of London married into my Kniveton line of Derby back in the 1500s. If anyone is searching around that time, I would love to hear from you, Regards, Maureen Sunny Western Australia

18. 1881 and 1871 censuses [1]
Hi listers, I'm hoping to get access to 1881 census records next week. If anyone wants specific lookups on the BRAILSFORD or related names, please post a message to list. Give as much detail as possible... approx age in 1881, place of birth, place of residence, family members, in-law's surnames. I had a quick look today, and there are over 300 BRAILSFORD names, so I won't have time to transcribe all of them! but I might do a few to post to list. I've also ordered two 1871 census films for CLAYCROSS / CLAY
19. 1871 census Clay Cross [1]
Hi everyone, Some exciting news! With the info explained below, I have most likely confirmed that my husband's gg grandfather is Greg Latham's wife's ggg uncle! Does that make us "cousins"? I have access to the 1871 census for Clay Cross, Derby, for the next couple of weeks, from the LatterDaySaints. Film numbers are 839779 & 839780. They include other Ashover areas and some Hognaston. I've booked in for two hours next Tuesday to browse. If you have any none-BRAILSFORD names that you would like me to chec

21. Are you called Brailsford (Part 2) [1]
Continued: By the mid-seventeenth century, this branch had spawned offshoots settled at Stretton-in-Shirland, The Hill-in-North Wingfield, South Normanton, Rowthorne, Bolsover, Egstow Hall, Chesterfield, Little Normanton, Little Brailsford in North Wingfield and Duffield - prolific if you like! The latter branch, Duffield, migrated to France in 1689, and we do not know what became of them. Thomas Brailsford of Senior sold that estate at about the same time (all this perhaps as a result of zeal for the d
22. Re Samuel Brailsford, Australia [1]
Hi Norma, I went to the National Library in Canberra, Australia today and did some looking up for you. Unfortunately we were evacuated for a fire drill and weren't allowed back in! So I still need to try to see some more sources, but this is what I've found so far on descendants of Samuel BRAILSFORD. Where a Reg # is quoted, I have referred to "Diggers Pioneer Index Victoria 1836-1888" for BirthMarriageDeath. If you wanted more information, the marriage cert of Samuel & Rebecca would give you their places

Dear list, I wrote to Stephen Kimberley who manages the Brimington Site, back in April. I wrote.. [You have in your "walk through St Michaels and All Angels Church" a reference to "In the Sacristy, which is usually locked, are two wooden plaques mounted high on the wall which read: Benefactors to the Parish of Brimington. Bread, one half of which to the poor of Brimington by will of ELIZABETH or ISABEL BRAILSFORD from a rent charge from a farm at Lockerford. #0.10.00."] And asked him if he knew anything fur
