We're looking for the ancestry of JACOB BURTON BRASWELL, born abt. Sept. 5, 1830, died March 18, 1895 in Howell Co., MO.
I have seen his birthplace listed as TN, AL, SC and GA (none were official documents).
He married a NANCY M. (Herndon?) (born 30 June 1833 in TN, died 5 Oct. 1875 in Howell Co., MO) about 1855 and had 2 children, CICERO (born 1857 in GA, died 1874), and MARY J. (born 1859 in AL).
There is a JACOB B. BRASWELL listed in the AL 43rd Inf. Co. H, 1861-1865, and a

Dear Listers,
This evening I intend to post a list of all BRASWELLs and BREAZEALEs
Eunice Young recently found on the 1910 Federal Census of Arkansas.
Included in the subject line will be a notation on its length. If you want
this information but haven't the disc space or if it's too big for your ISP
to handle, please ask a friend to receive it for you and give me his or her
URL.
Regards,

Dear Listers,
Some of you are wondering why standard presidential lineage charts do
not list our Rev. ROBERT BRACEWELL (1611-1668) among the ancestors of
36th U.S. President, LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON (1908-1973). Most stop short at
the generation of SAMUEL ELEY (1736-c.1771), great-grandson of JANE
BRACEWELL ELEY (c.1646-c.1711), the Parson's daughter.
A manuscript at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library in Austin donated by the
late James MacClamroch of Rocky Mount, NC, documents SAMUEL's descent from

Gayle,
I am in complete agreement with you about the Henry index having duplicates
on it. For instance, Reddick Bracewell 141185 was definitely the son of
Rachel Bird, but she is listed as the spouse of Solomon Bracewell 14263.
Therefore, the Henry Index definitely contains an extra Solomon Bracewell.
As I have said before, Solomon Bracewell 14118 and Solomon Bracewell 14263
appear to be one and the same.
I am willing to do whatever I can to sort them all out, but I just don't
know where to start!

Once again I am still looking for any substantial information concerning the
parents of Elijah Braswell. See my website for details.

Dear Mac: Why would we want to call it the "Sam Index" when I am proposing
timelines? What does "Sam" have to do with it? I would name it the
Braswell Timelines. I do not believe that the "Henry Index" is completely
accurate; others have said the same thing. The only way we can prove that
it is accurate is to do the timelines, adding the official documents is to
do a timeline, backed up by those documents.
As I recall, I was the one who originally talked to Foy and Carey about
giving a number to each
Marilyn,
I'm always happy to hear from someone who is interested in this family -
this is one of my two Braswell ancestors.
Micajah and Sampson were two separate individuals. Below are my notes about
this family.
3. Samuel1 Braswell was born circa 1738 in Edgecombe Co., North
Carolina.[i] He married Sarah Hunt circa 1762.[ii] He died before Feb 1795
in Nash Co., North Carolina.[iii]
He was appeared on the tax list in 1782 in Nash Co., North
Carolina.[iv] He left a will on 30 Nov 1794 in Nash Co., N
Hello,
I have thought/searched/ about this, and also consulted a source
(Not on any list that I know of), and it is suggested to me that
there may be a typo here (see below), with a possibility of names
being switched.
My understanding is that the widow of Zebulon Lewis is very
confirmed as named Jane.
And that Alice is the mother of John,Jr, & wife of John,Sr. (
Henry# 149?)
I'll leave it to better people to decide is the spelling is
Bracewell or Braswell or ?.
My interest is that I think that somewhe

Dear Listers,
I wish to correct an error in my E-mail last Saturday (12 May 01): as
Cousin Randy kindly pointed out, ZEBULON LEWIS's widow was named "Jane", not
"Alice" {IW Wills & Accounts, Vol. 4, 1733-1745, pp. 215-216}. Thanks,
Randy, for the reminder that the worst notes are still better than the best
memory .
Patent and deed evidence still confirm ALICE as the wife of JOHN
BRACEWELL, SR. (b.c. 1690). Still undetermined is whether it was JOHN SENIOR
or JUNIOR who married ZEB LEWIS's widow
Dear Keith,
I am replying to your query about ELIJAH BRASWELL (c.1792->1840) to the
List because you posted it there and because I'm in hopes that our
STRICKLAND subscribers will see it and perhaps help you with your problem.
Before I offer an opinion about ELIJAH let me ask you this: Did I miss
something? Your query said to see your website for more information but I
could find nothing outlining your research problem--only that ELIJAH was
your oldest known BRASWELL ancestor.

Dear Raymond,
Congratulations on your visit to St. Luke's. A growing number of us
descendants of Rev. ROBERT BRACEWELL (1611-1668) have now made that
pilgrimage. May is a pleasant time to visit there, isn't it?
You asked about the parson's grave. Although it is possible that his
remains are buried under the main altar, it is more likely he was laid to
rest on his plantation, nearby. As you may be aware, a medieval custom
that survived into the early modern period was to bury respected prie
Dear Listers,
Cousin Eunice Young of Sandy, Utah has generously shared her listing of
white Arkansas BRASWELLS and BREAZEALES on the 1910 Federal Census appearing
on the Soundex Index. Age and state of birth follow each name. Head of
household's name appears in brackets where the
subject was living with someone else. Soundex reference numbers in
parentheses complete each entry. (Note: "no number" usually indicates a
child less than one year old.)

Can anyone tell me if this Micajah Sampson had the surname of Braswell or was he perhaps a recognized son of a woman not the wife of Samuel Braswell. I looked on the Henry Index and did not see this Samuel listed, but I find the chart very confusing, so might have missed it.
I am very interested in this particular Braswell family, because of the use of Wilson as a given name, and in the same area as our Brasswell/Wilson connection.
