But my files are incomplete: One main branch of the Hoover family came from the Antietam or Conococheague (Washington Co Maryland), to Clermont Co OH in 1807. I do not find Wm Harrison among his children/grandchildren. HOWEVER, others of the Hoover family went to Jessamine

How interesting, Emmert--sounds just like the way we Catholics do it! 3. re: Susannah Flora and Nathan West, and earlier Wests [1]
Thank you so much, Dennis and Ferne. My relative who has done research on our West relatives thought that they had always been Methodist Episcopal. She will also be pleased to have this further information. She traced the Wests back to early 1600's in Virginia. Robert West was one of 100 children sent to VA by the Virginia Company to be apprenticed to the colonists. In recompense they would receive land, cattle, and corn at the completion of their servitude. Now, I guess I should

My father's name is Dannie Brovont and I too would be interested in learning all I can from his line. His Father was Elmer Brovont, who lived in Rossville, Indiana and he originally was married to Ida Skiles, who died when my father was 2 years of age. Debbie Rushing
8. David Davis Eby [1]
Hello Judy, According to _The Eby Report_, v. ii, 1978, by Clyde Groff and George Newman, David Davis Eby's children were John, David, Peter, Thomas, Joseph, Henry William, Sarah Salome (my line) and another daughter (Anna???). I understand that there are errors in _The Eby Report_, and the known errors are addressed on "The Eby Family in North America" website, webmistress Dawn Quast at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/q/u/a/B-D-Quast The enduring Eby mystery seems to be "Who were David Davis Eby'

Ihave a Jacob Roesch in Minnisota that had to serve because he didn't have the money to pay to stay out. He served as a cook. I had another Benjamin Ikenberry that pay 500 to stay out. I have seen lists where people paid for someone to replace them. Carol Hopping ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 10. Re: Millers at Antietam [1]
reply from Emmert Bittinger; Ceder and Stone, you are absolutely correct. The battlefield church is not the Antietam Church, but the Mumma church. It is sometimes called the Antietam Battlefield Church, which is an accurate designation, but one not derived from the Brethren. Also, not well known on this board is the fact that the Mumma Church was a preaching point and under the administration of the MANOR CONGREGATION, in which territory it was located, and which meeting house is one of the "cla
11. RE: Civil War [1]
Debra, The responses here could get interesting. One of the Elders at Peters Creek in Salem VA was my ancestor Daniel Barnhart. He was very driven by conflicting issues and this lead to his instructions to both never harm anyone and also be a faithful servant. To this end two sons were drafted and served. One as a guard at a prison camp and the other eventually was captured and died in a union prison camp. The most intriguing true story comes from their cousin Amos Peters. He also served and was captured. A

Hi Ferne, A note to let you know that I got your information and will be sending payment. Thank you for you help with the Nearhoof and Spanogle information. In addition, I am trying to find the obit of Lydia (Roop) Boyer. One other thing. Is the Gospel Messenger available for those doing genealogy research to review. If so what is the location(s)

Hi Gerry, I live in Georgia, too -- north of Atlanta in the Lake Lanier Area. Did you know that there is an old order German Baptist Brethren community near the north Georgia mountains? Their work ethic and the quality of their work is greatly admired in this area. Some of them worked on a house that friends of mine were building and my friends were very pleased with their work. Members of this Old German Baptist congregation also own a German bakery between Helen and Cleveland, GA. I am also searchin

15. Re: Cooper's new book Pleasant View (MD) [1]
REPLY FROM EMMERT Respnse to your note below. The Pleasant View church is a small country church, not having a church office or secretary. You would find no one at the church most likely. If you go there it is along the road between Middletown and Burkittsville, about a mile lnorth of Burkittsville. It would be a better bet for you to call if you are in a hurry: 301-371-7656. 21. Anna Eby [1]
Hi, Does anyone have anything on an Anna Eby born 30 Nov 1800 in (PA?) died 10 Feb 1877 in Stark Co., OH. She married Daniel Bowser born 20 Dec 1795 York Co., PA, died 20 Sep 1881 in Stark Co., OH. I think she is the daughter of David Davis Eby, who was in Stark Co., OH and according to one web site he had an unnamed daughter born about 1796-7. She would fit nicely in his family. Thanks. Yours, Eric Blocher

John, My mother's Anointing Sacrament left a lasting impression on me also. How have you and Ruby Ann been? Your weather looks hot and humid on the weather maps. We have had several very hot days but last evening we went to an outdoor dinner and it very chilly. The wind has been blowing all day and it is comfortable today. The hills are turning brown and I know hot weather is to follow. I went to a travel faire today at the Lab and brought home lots of literature. Did find out that we can get passpo

Gerald -- For Friends in VA, picture of & books by Samuel M. Janney, especially his memoirs. For Brethren in VA, something about Elder John Klein/Kline; also John Kagy. For Mennonites in VA, a book by Peter (?) Burkholder ca 1834 in German includes many pages that are against slavery. Don't know if it's ever been reissued, but you might get some good photocopies plus translation of some of the pages. I think he was a Mennonite but am not sure -- this is just memory. When exactly do you hope to have the

25. Pow Wow [1]
I live in Eastern PA. Several years ago I went to the Penn Dutch Folk Festival in Kutztown PA. They had several displays and demonstrations on the PA Dutch Culture and I remember one display that mentioned a healing ceremony called a Pow Wow. I know it struck me as strange at the time because I had always associated that term with the Indians. Here this would be an Amish custom, but perhaps it started as something that came from Germany with the early Anabaptist groups and the term Pow Wow derived from
