Angus; please let us know how the interview goes, I would like to have some answers as to why it is so hard to get information from Barnardo's. They take forever to return anything, Does the British Government have a Web Site so that the families of Home Children could access and obtain very important information.
I have been waiting for along time now, for a reply and I think that it will be an extremely long frustrating wait. Trouble is, age waits for now man and neither does time. Perhaps Barnardo's c

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has already been able to find information
for Canadian BHC from sources other than the ones usually
mentioned here. I would think people have tried everything
however..
If a BHC applied for Canadian Old Age Security (which I think
started about 1952) has anyone tried seeing if the government still
has a record of the information supplied at the time of application
(proof of birth / baptism and length of time in Canada)?
Has anyone found that a Home Child wa
Sophiee,
I e-mailed Mary Gandy at CCWC@compuserve.com for infomation on Catholic
sending homes and she suggested I e-mail Rosemary Keenan at the Catholic
Children's Society (Westminster) and ask her to check in the central
Catholic index of all children and young people sent to Canada by Catholic
organizations, adding if his name appeared there may be little or no
information on him but it would point to any additional information that
exists.
However, she did not give methe e-mail address. I replied ask

Of special interest to all of you, there will be an historical plaque put
up by the Government of Canada in Stratford, Ontario sometime next summer.
I will try to keep you informed so you know when and where. In case anyone
wants to know why Stratford, they were looking for an early location of a
home where the children were sent. They also wanted it to be in a fairly
high-traffic area if possible so that it would be seen. If possible, they
wanted a location where the home still stood. The Macpherso
Hello Listers,
I would like to enquire of those Listers who have corresponded with Barnardos Home in Britain. What are the most significant details required by Barnardos when searching HOME CHILDREN records?
I hesitate to add to their work load with only skimpy details.
Has anyone heard of a book called "Passenger & Immigration Lists Index" by
T. William Filby & Dorothy M. Lower ?
It runs to a large # of volumes & contains 20 million names in alphabetical
order......published in the U.K.
A look-up volunteer in England suggested it as he has seen it in a library
there....

I agree, I too would like the answer to this question. I've been waiting
months for a reply too.

Hi Gerrie:
Just don't let them hang you up in the local museum! I could not get an
e-mail through to Barnado's as I had the wrong aftercare address (missing an
s at the end of Barnardos so Walter (one of our chat people) contacted
Frances Brewer the lady who does the research for Barnardos and she sent me
an e-mail. I e-mailed her back stating I had already e-mailed her on
November 7, 2000 at her personal address frances.brewer@barnados.org.uk.
That was the last contact. My question to her was-was my grand

Hello again listers: When my BHC arrived in Canada in 1921 - would his
files (Birth Reg. etc) have been brought over and given to the Ottawa
receiving/dispensing home? My cousin in England wondered, and I didn't
think of it...should I check the Archives...? Thanks for any ideas. Treena

I am in Canada and The Guardian did not cancel my interview to occur on
Wednesday.
My father was at Fegans Boys Home...maybe this made some difference.
I hope I represent us well during the telephone interview.

DO A SEARCH FOR "BRITISH HOME CHILDREN," YOU WILL COME TO A PAGE.... WHICH
WILL ALLOW YOU TO "SUBSCRIBE, ETC.," BUT YOU CAN ALSO ASK TO READ OR

Hi Betty: I think I know what you mean. Marj Kohli's site has a lot of info about ships and links to the ships. You would think there would be more interest as you mention, but who knows. I've typed the Sarnia enough times to know it shows up a lot on our BHC website. Don't know what else to suggest right now.
