Claiborne, Kent Island (Queen Anne Co), MD. Yes indeed, this lovely tiny
village continues to exist today.
For well over one hundred years leading up to 1954 (when the Bay Bridge was
built from Annapolis, Maryland to the eastern shore) Claiborne was the site
of the ferry landing on the eastern shore, and the colorful ferry boats
chugged back and forth from Annapolis to Claiborne.
The shore , and particularly the lower countie
Hi I'm a new subscriber so don't know whether this family has been discussed. I'm
looking for Captain Peter Butler of Frederick County, Maryland, who was in the
militia during the French and Indian War and then the Revolution. Does anyone
connect with this family?

you have any Brown, Sircy, are Burtons mixed in your family tree than these 3

Hello all you fellow Butler researchers. I am new to this group and just
wanted to invite everyone to visit my new website that focuses on
Butlers in Alabama in the 19th century. I also want to invite you to
visit my personal genealogy website to see if we might be related. It
features over 180 family group sheets (not all are Butlers but many
are). Naturally, I would like to exchange information with anyone who
may be descended from a common ancestor.

Am gaining in the research on Richard V. Butler!! He was born 12/5/1866 in
Hartford, Connecticut to Henry Butler and Pheve Ferdon. He married Evelyn

Valentine Bliss, who perhaps was a godfather.
Does anyone have any info on parents Henry Butler and Pheve Ferndon??

I'm glad the question of the origin of the Butler name has generated so
much interest as most of the postings here concern American Butlers and
mine were not American; at last some common ground.
The notion of the original Butlers arriving in England with William in
October 1066 is a fairly common one and so naturally, I pursued that.
Somewhat to my surprise, I found it difficult to find a definitive listing
of those who came with him to Hastings aside from the obvious (FitzOsbern,
Odo etc.). Scholarly tr

Would appreciate any info regarding the heritage of the above person. He was
an original justice of Sampson County. He is connected to Sir John Cooper and

Fleet Cooper, Jr. married a daughter of Charles Butler of Duplin County.
His ancestors are supposedly listed in Wurts, Magna Charta Barons.

You Requested some proof of my descent from Thomas Pincerna, b. @1180 in
London and his relationship to Sir Hugue le Bouteillier, who accompanied Wm
The Conqueror.
May I refer you to the 1569 Visitation of Worcester (Harleian Soc., Vol. 27,
p. 30); the 1566 Visitation of Bedforshire (Id at Vol. 19, p. 9); the 1541
According to my documentation, Theobald Fitz-Walter was granted the
commission of Boteillier (literally, bottler - the rulers of England
spoke French in those days, of course) by Henry II, in 1177, at least
partially in return for his help in subjecting parts of Ireland. The
commission can probably be likened to a franchise to supply wine to
England. Theobald's son, Theobald II, first took the name of Le
Botteiler or Butler in 1221. The Butler family had possession of
baronies in upper and lower Ormond and
