Recently had an email message about a new website. Looks promising so I
thought I would share.
New site, Ancestory Gravesite Project, consists of gravesite photos that
have been submitted from researchers all over the world. This site is for
anyone in any country who is interested in contributing to the project.
Includes a search engine.

The Nevada State Archives, in Carson City will have most of these records.
Aurora as well as Susanville were caught up in the boundary line dispute and
when the Kidder-Ives survey was conducted in the summer of 1863, it was found
that Susanville was in California and Aurora in Nevada. Due to such conflicts,
as with Susanville I occassionaly check Plumas County records as well as Nevada
records due to the dispute. The staff at Nevada archives, however, can provide
with you what you are seeking, and if not,
Thank you for the information on Inwood.

We have a g. g. grandfather who apparently died in or before May 1874 in
Shasta
County. (This is from a notation on the voters list - "deceased cld 21 May
74").
Are there records of the old miner's cemeteries from that time period?
Where would we find them?
We understand the old town of Whiskeytown is now under water, and a new town
rebuilt at the top of the hill. Does anyone if the cemetery was moved as
well, or is it under water?

Greetings,
I am new to the list and am working on my EMERY family history. My
great-grandfather's brother, William EMERY, and his wife Eliza GREEN moved to
California with their three children Charlie, Rose, and George in the late
1800s. William owned and operated the Duchess Mine. I have some wonderful
letters sent by William to my ggrandfather over a couse of many years which
provide some detail about the running of the mine. Unfortunately the mine
never succeeded. I am most interested in conne

I have since found, practically under my nose. Richmond Hill was
located about 10 miles east of LaPorte next to Saw Pit Flat and about a
mile to two miles west of Onion Valley.

I am looking for information on Inwood, Shasta, CA. I
believe my gg grandmother was buried there. I found
Inwood on an 1895 California map shown on the internet
and also on a list of past and present post offices in
CA, however, I cannot find any reference to it in the
present day. Any help on what happened to Inwood or
how to find the location would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I am doing genealogy research about a man named Gordon McCalister (or
McCallister, McAlister, McAllister, McCollister, McCollester, etc.) He was
said to have left Ross County, Ohio in the 1840s to search for gold in
California. He was successful, but two years after he arrived he was
murdered by robbers for his gold. He was supposedly buried in California.
I would like to substantiate this story with any sort of documents
concerning Gordon, such as a tombstone inscription, newspaper article about

Hi April,
I can't answer your question-hope someone else will. I do know if you get a
chance to go to the NV Archives in Carson City, you will find a wealth of
material. They have a large building, all so well organized. And the people
there were very helpful and knowledgeable.I was there last Wednesday and it
only took minutes for me to find an article in a 1960 Austin, NV newspaper
for June 1960. (that is Churchill County) Also, it only took 5 minutes to
get her death certificate at another building fair
I am looking for the repository for vital records (especially marriage)
from the city of Aurora, NV before 1874. I understand that from 1861 to
1863 Aurora was the dual county seat of Mono County CA and Esmeralda County
NV, thus, if the marriage occurred after 1863 it would have been recorded
in Esmeralda, yes? Does anyone know if the said county is still in
possession of these records or have they been transferred to another
facility, say the NV State Archives/Library or NV State U? I also believe

For some reason there seems to be more names in the Ancestry SSDI data

I was unable to find someone in the Rootsweb SSDI search engine that I

that there are about two thousand more SMITHS on the Ancestory site than

Hello,
New to the list here.
I am seeking information on MARTIN'S c.1850 in El Dorado Co (I think). One
source states they show listed in Placer Co in 1850, but my understanding is
that Placer Co was not created until 1851. Milton Martin (reportedly a miner
and a minister) disappeared from the Lumpkin Co GA 1850 census, leaving behind
wife and some of his children. He reportedly went to CA for the Goldrush
sometime before 1850. There is a Milton Martin in El Dorado Co on the 1850 CA
