Thank You for the additional information.
I had always heard that there was more to the obit than what I found. I was
starting to think maybe I had the wrong newspaper.
The good thing about the Feb 10 obit is that it gives a specific date of
death.

In Adams County, Mississippi Deed Book K, Page 219-221, William Calvit's Land Divided, there are six heirs of William Calvit listed: Anthony Calvit, John Calvit, Tacitus Calvit, Zelpha Seton, Ann Calvit, and Mary Fletcher's Representatives.
Does anyone know who the mothers of these daughters are Unk. Holmes or Phoebe?
Zelpha is probably the daughter of Phoebe.

If you are talking with Latayne I have her book as well. It is probably the
best genealogical book I have ever read. She has an addendum in the back on
Calvit. I am descended from Stephen Elijah Calvit by Stephen N. Calvit and
HIS father Isaac S. Calvit. but have never been able to put to rest if
Isaac was son of Anthony and Mary Mayes Calvit. Anyone have any
suggestions?
Latayne? Anyone else?
I have reached the end of the line. I have so much information but nothing
definitive about Isaac's parent
Hi Norma,
Can you tell me where I can purchase the book "A good Inheritance" by Francis Stuart
Harmon? Lucretia Calvit Cheatham was my gggrandmother, she married Francis Gardere
Henderson.
Thank you in advance,
James Dean Sanders

Is the book still available to buy?

Hi, Suzanne and Latayne--
Thank you for the copy of the obit of our ancestor, Mary Dean Calvit Higdon!
I still am so glad that I bought Latayne's book.

A Good Inheritance, by Francis Stuart Harmon was published
privately in 1960. It's an excellent book, but is out of print and
difficult to find. However, if you live near a large city with a big
library you can often find it there. Regrettably, it's NOT indexed !!!

Someone just asked about getting Latayne C. Stanfill's book. I told them to
write to the publisher but forgot to say who that was. Maybe you would care
to "plug" the book? It surely is worth it. I thought it was top flight.

Hi Norma:
It's so nice to hear from you -- and we're pleased that you (still) enjoy
the
book. The Calvits have an interesting history -- much more exciting than
our branch that went into Tennessee. Since the Calvits weren't our direct
line Latayne only did the first couple of generations, but it's so nice to
see people still trying to track them down.
God Bless ! Suzanne and Latayne
Please do post it,

Michael's message refers to the original death notice of Feb. 10,
1807. A more complete obit ran a week later, also in The
Mississippi Messenger - dated February 17, 1807.
A Good Inheritance, by Francis Stuart Harmon, page 168 reads in
part: "She (Mary Higdon) died in the 85th year of her age in 1807,
in the town of Washington six miles east of Natchez where her
two story home still stands between Highway 61 and Jefferson
Military College. A weekly paper, The Mississippi Messenger, in it
"Mississippi Messenger", Tuesday, Febuary 10, 1807
Died near Washington on Sunday evening, Mrs. Mary Higdon, In the 85th year
of her age.
