It was four years later when Walter Cambridge purchased Patterson Mill,
located in the mountains sixteen miles from Eagleville. Patterson Mill
had been built by a man named Patterson and his sons. It was later sold
to Walter Johnstone, and he in turn sold it to Walter and Meager Miller
in 1922.
There was no road that a car could navigate on the Eagleville side.

JAMES FEE. Few of the men now prominent in the agricultural development
of Modoc county have been identified with its history for a longer
period than has Mr. Fee, who is a pioneer of 1867. During the spring of
that year he came to Surprise valley and bought a claim near Fort
Bidwell, also pre-empted a claim adjacent hereto. As the years passed
he added to his possessions from time to time until now he is the owner
of about sixteen hundred acres of land, all in Surprise valley. The

WILLIAM GERIG - Among the self-made men of Lassen county, no name stood
higher in the estimation of the people that that of the late William
Gerig, who began his career in life at the foot of the ladder of
success, without other resources than his own indomitable will and
sturdy industry. From this humble position he worked his way steadily
upward, becoming recognized as one of the representative agriculturists
of northern California, owning and occupying a finely cultivated and

ABBOTT M. GREEN - Among the well-known and highly esteemed residents of

man of ability, talent and much force of character, he has acquired a
place of considerable influence in social and business circles, and as
junior member of the firm of Potter & Green deals in real estate, and
does much of the surveying and civil engineering required in this part
of the state. A son of Abbott Green, he was born, December 29, 1864, in

Louis Remme felt just great! Things had worked out mighty well, after
all. The cattle had sold good; all told, he deposited $12,500 with
Adams and Company. He patted the pocket of his coat where the receipt
was riding, reassured by the slight bulkiness that it made. Its touch
gave him a feeling of security, knowing that his future was now secure.
A man could do a lot with that kind of money!
Louis Remme felt inside his coat pocket and pulled out a long-nine.
Carefully he nibbled at the end of the c

With two children, they crossed the plains to California in 1857. When the

Hi All,
You may remember that I asked for someone to take over the list after I had
it set up. So far, nobody has volunteered to do that. If we can't get a
permanent owner to take on the list, we will as least need someone to do the
administrative work in case I must leave the area for a while. (I do take
vacations on occasion).
The administration of a small list usually takes very little time, but there
must be someone available to help anyone who wants to sub or unsub and is
having a problem. The ad
