THE ALTURAS FIRE DEPARTMENT has taken over the job
of promoting the 4th of July celebration in Alturas.
The Firemen say, and we agree, that a lot of the zip
has gone out of the occasion and they intend to

Dr. Cadwallader came over from Fall City yesterday and in company with Dr.
Lutz went up to see James Hewitt, who is in a critical condition.
One-Eyed Willie, an Indian in the employ of Jas. Snell in Fall River valley,
was arrested for killing one of Snell's cattle, and on preliminary
examination before Justice Mooers at Fall City Monday, he was bound over to
appear before the Superior Court. Two other Indians are suspected of being
implicated, and may be dealt with later.

Tomorrow, at 6:00 AM we board a plane for St. Louis.
For the next eight days we will be touring the States
of Lousiana. Missouri, and Tennessee, on a musical
journey of the South. We will be back late the night
of 3/31/04. See you all again after the 1st of April.

Dr. Lutz was called to Hayden Hill Monday evening to set a fractured
shoulder blade for jack Bowden, who was injured in the Golden eagle mine.
The accident occurred at 5 o'clock of that day, and was caused by a large
rock falling out of a bucket

Alturas resident Doris Yvonne Brennan passed away of natural causes on March
7, 2004, shy of her 62nd birthday in Alturas, Calif.
A native of Lawrence, Massachusetts, she was born on March 19, 1942, and
graduated from Tenny High School in Methven, Massachusetts. A resident of
San Diego for a number of years, prior to relocating to Alturas, Mrs.
Brennan had a passion for and love of helping people. She worked as a
certified nurses assistant for many years, aiding the disab

A number of our people attended the funeral of H. S. Brown in Adin Tuesday.
The procession was one of the largest ever seen in the valley.
Mr. Aaron A. Baker and Miss Bertha Lenora Neate were married at the
residence of the groom's father, near Pitville, a week ago last evening, in
the presence of nearly one hundred invited guests; Rev. D. W. Gilbert

William Kenneth 'Bill' Cockrell
Eagleville resident William (Bill) Kenneth Cockrell passed away March 16, 2004, at Merle West Medical Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Eagleville Cemetery, with fellowship to follow at the Eagleville Grange Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any charity of the donor's choice. A complete obituary to follow next week.

Greetings,
While working on construction for their new Cancer Center this past Tuesday,
UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento unearthed two sets of human remains
from the old Sacramento County Hospital Cemetery. Despite the fact that
both the county board of supervisors and the medical center knew the
cemetery was there, the county transferred the land to the center in 1973.
Davis intends to call these "archaeological remains" instead of bodies from
the old cemetery. In this way they may be able to circu

Dr. West, who was on trial last week for the murder of Addie Gilmore, was
acquitted by the jury.
It was found necessary to perform a second operation on Robert Woodmansee,
as the bone left in the stump showed signs of serious decay. Dr.

every thing in readiness Saturday morning, the patient was placed under

Hello, Speaking of Calvin Hall- In a book written by Hector Lee (a historian and professor at Chico State), Tales Of California from the History and Folklore of the Far West. There is a story about the lynching. It also says that when Calvin was a soldier at Fort Crook in 1861 he kept a journal in which he described the way of life among the Indians as he knew them. His observations were accurate, clear and objective. He was said to have been one of the best authorities on the Indians of that region
