Dear Rhonda,
Diarmid and I have discussed this before. Because this is before recorded
history there are no exact dates for the birth of Colin (Mor). We have to
use his death in 1296 and calculate back. Diarmid told me that he was in his
60 or 70,s when he died in 1296. We know that he signed that Ragged roll
that lives in infamy. It was forced on Scotland by the English King. He
also signed some property deeds.
If we go back as far as possible and say he was born aprx 1220,s and then use

Casey,
In the 18th century most people who entered the American colonies - and
later the United States - coming from Ireland arrived in Philadelphia for
some reason - not all but many. Later on in the 19th century NYC and Boston
were popular destintions. The largest number of people from what is now the
Republic of Ireland came in the 19th century and thousands due to the potato
famine of the 1840s. Many of the Irish records have been lost due to the

The following source list is to accompany the nine part series I have posted
the past few weeks of Campbell Entries I took from the book by Donald Whyte
entitled "Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to the U. S. If anyone missed my
postings of these approximately 200 Campbell who came across the big pond,
you can either find them in the list archives or you can email me and I will
send you the complete list including this Source list I am about to post.
This will be the third part of the Source list.

Indiana/johnstown, PA.
Martin Philetus was born on the 4th day of October in 1910 in Boston,

I am new to this list so am flagging my interest in the Campbell name.
The 'dead end' is:

Hello Cathy, The "Handy Book for Genealogists" has this:
Birth and death records have been kept in Penn. since 1892. Until 1902
these records were kept in their respective counties, since then they have
been under the direction of the Divison of Vital Statistics, P O Box 1528,
New Castle, PA 16103. So you probably will not find a birth record as such
in that time frame for Pa. I can suggest : Baptismal Church records,
census, probate or will records, etc. for proof of birth. Most of us

Hello friends,
As a child, my great gran regaled us with stories of being related to
royalty, which always stood me in good stead in the boasting line, but now
years on, I am finding that maybe her stories were just a little bit
exaggerated :-)
The story went that we were related to Douglas Edward CAMPBELL 7th Duke of
Argyll, who had a morganatic marriage with a lady by the name of Margaret -
their daughter Margaret CAMPBELL would have been born around 1825. I have
managed to trace her back to her marriage
Sheelagh,
Charming tale and maybe just that. There was one of the 19th century Dukes
of Argyll who was rather prolific (at the time he was probably called
profligate) but of course it was important to the Argyll family no bury the
memory and so no information on any natural children survives.
It is truly astonishing how many - particularly US - Campbell families have
the tradition that they were 'descended from the Duke of Argyll'.
One aspect of the explanation is that clan families of the same name as

Try looking in the 1920 census listing him as a child in PA then you also
find his parents. Also send to the State Vital Records for a copy of his
birth certificate, and if you know where he died send for a death
certificate, both would list his parents.

While researching my own Campbells in the book "Dictionary of Scottish
Emigrants to the U.S.A" by Donald Whyte, I came across quite a few other
Campbells not my own who had also emigrated so I made photocopies of the
pages and will be posting them in blocks of about 20 over the next 8-10 days.
Hopefully they will help someone. Some of the entries contain ship names,
most do not. Some of the info mentioned is from events that happened after
they arrived in the US taken from various sources by the au
