Hi List,
I am trying to find information about my Grandmothers brother George Arthur EVANS who was born 2nd March 1877 Bangor, Caernarvonshire and who immigrated to Canada in the early 1900s.
I have some photographs of George (which I assume he sent to my Grandmother in Wales) taken in Canada. One shows him with his daughter Elsie in Kimberley B.C. in 1941. He has written on the back that he stayed there from October until after his birthday in March. Some are taken outside his house which is built of wood
Hello everyone
There seems to be renewed interest in tracing an ancestor
who arrived in Canada before 1865 - a challenging time
period!
This is an update to the original note I wrote in February
2007 about Immigration Projects Online and ships passenger
lists to Canada before 1865.
Remember that before 1865, Canada did not require ships
passenger lists to be kept so these projects may be all you
can find for an ancestor's arrival
Some of the URLs below are more than one line long and

My great-uncle Isaac Newton was born in 1878 in Hughenden, Buckinghamshire. He was in Buckinghamshire in 1881 and 1891. I believe that he emigrated to Canada (place unknown) and joined the police force there. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out more, please?
Thank you.

I am trying to trace Mary Isabella Peattie, born 1864 in London who supposedly emigrated to Canada round about 1900. That is all I know about her. Is it possible to search Naturalization files on the net ? I don't know where in England she sailed from, or where she landed in Canada. I have tried the Ellis Island site in case she went via the USA, but nothing there.
If you are having trouble figuring out where someone is located and all
you have is the land location - like 16-24-31-W1 - and need to find out
what town or area that is, go to www.chodovepeople.com and in the middle
of the page is a form to fill out. When you submit the location, it will
tell you the name of the town and such.
Hope this helps you all.
Chat with you soon,

I am trying to help a friend with his father's history - the gentleman in question was born in England in 1896, joined the English Navy, and by 1924 is applying for a Canadian passport. He goes to England shortly after, but returns to Canada in 1925 where he stays until his death.
Two things - the passport application and the name he went by for the rest of his life is completely different from the name he was given at birth - surname and forename. He is also shown as four years younger than his actual

From 1763 to 1 January 1947, people born in the provinces
and
colonies of British North America were all British
subjects.
Thus immigrants from Great Britain and the Commonwealth
(England, Ireland, Wales or Scotland) did not have to be
naturalized.

Dear Listers,

Hello all:
I'm new to this list and am trying to find out more information about
the Canadian branch of my SAWDON family.
As far as I know so far, this line begins with:
Fred Winspear SAWDON (17 Sep 1885 - 4 Aug 1973) b. Whitby, N. Yorks, son
of William SAWDON and Eleanor WINSPEAR. (William was a watchmaker and
jeweller of some repute in Whitby; his shop at 17, Bridge Street, was
photographed by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe and is in the fourth collection
of the latter's works. William was my great-grandfathe
Does anyone researching this family know the town of origin of George Philip
Brehm (ca 1727-1776) and his wife, Elisabeth Heller (ca 1727-1801) in
Sachsen/Saxony in Germany? Thanks.Jim
Dear Listers
Family story tells of Walter Bulley emigrating to Canada in early 1990's,
possibly 1907. I believe he married & had children, therefore I am assuming
that he became a Canadian Citizen. I would be grateful for any information
to confirm/refute the story, but would also be happy with any census or
other information. It would be great if descendants were able to get in
touch. Look forward to hearing from anyone.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards
Pat
Searching for ancestor: EVERLY, Philipp ~~ name may be any of above
variations.
Immigrated from Hessen Darmstadt circa 1844-45. May have settled in Cedar
Springs, ONT, (or then "Upper Canada"?) or vicinity.
Thank you for your assistance. Natalie in Huron, Ohio USA
Hello fellow researchers -
Some of you probably know that I read and answer a lot of
questions on various genealogy mailing lists. I've been
doing this for years but I decided that starting in 2009 I
would use a slightly different method.
Don't get me wrong, I am still going to respond to mailing
list queries whenever possible. But I thought there was a
better way to help other researchers, so I started a Blog
called Ask Olive Tree. It's at

Dear Listeners,
I found the following on a Canadian website and wondered if anyone had any more information about Edna Marie Hawkin (nee Steele). Apparently she was my GG Uncle Donald Hawkin's Second Wife:
Hawkin (b Steele), Edna Marie. Pianist, teacher, organist, b Chesterfield, England, 6 Nov 1896, naturalized Canadian 1925, d Montreal 29 Jul 1988; ARCM, LRAM. Following her musical education in England, where she studied with Frederic Lamond, she came to Canada in 1920, living first in Prince Albert

I usually phone them with a land description, and its usually the Saskatoon
branch. Perhaps I've just been extremely lucky. So far I've sent for 9
homestead records. Out of those nine, I've received within those files 7
naturalization records. One, none was found and 1 the person became
naturalized when
Hello All
In reading the previous posts on the availability of naturalization records and all being destroyed, I have to disagree. I can't speak for all records, but I know that often if someone homesteaded, and you sent for there homestead records, the naturalization papers are included in with them. The homestead records I've sent for have probably included more naturalization records than not.
Just another avenue for those of you looking for them to try.
Good luck
Donna
Where did you send for the homestead records? The reason that I ask this is
because when I go to the Saskatchewan Archives and look at the original
homestead records for this area, there is no naturalization papers in them.
I have been to the Archives in Saskatoon on many occassions and have looked
up numerous relatives and not one naturalization paper was included.

I would have to say that you have been extremely fortunate. From the 30 or
more that I have received from the Saskatoon branch of the Archive, there
have been no naturalization records. Makes me envious.

My ancestors, George Phillip BREHM (About 1727-1776), and his wife,
Elizabeth HELLER (about 1727-1801) sailed from Hellevoet Roads, Rotterdam for
Halifax, Nova Scotia on 16 May 1752 on the 'Betty'.The passenger list stated they
were from 'Sachsen.'
I know that then and even today there were and are a number of different
Sachsens. I also know that boundaries have changed many times. My questions:
1. Which Sachsens existed in 1752 and where are these lands today?
2. Which of these might have been a
