Hi Listers
Sorry, I just noticed a mistake on my last posting! Hugh
YOUNG died in Brant Township on 28 September 1883
and not 1880. His age was given as 80. This would
explain how he managed to appear in the 1881 census!

I have previously had a lot of help from members of this list

Dear Listers:
Census records indicate that William and Mary were born in Scotland. Where in Scotland and if they were married prior to emigrating to Canada is an unanswered question. I have not been able to locate them on any census records or any records for that matter. There son John lists the names of his parents on his marriage document and first appears when married to Mary Lucinda Beatty on the 1881 Canadian Census in Huron, Bruce South, Ontario. He is listed as being a Tailor of Scottish Origin
Dang Stewart! I was just at the Bruce County archives today!
I have tried looking for a death registration for Margaret online, but none
of the Margaret Stevens seem to be yours. What was her approximate year of
birth? What was James's? If she died "late" enough, the death registration
would give her father's name as well as her mother's, but for that to happen
she would have to have died at a very old age. The other census pages (1861
and 1871) might give a clue - maybe she named a son "Hugh"? The Bruce Co

Hi List,
I've been trying to find the 1983 ed of Bruce Township Tales and Trails on
the Our Roots website. I saw it mentioned on one of the websites for Bruce
County but when I search at Our Roots I can't find it. Has it been pulled
from Our Roots?

This column is packed with items re our recent census and YES, if
it is still on the buffet or table, call the phone number immediately.
There is no fine for late filing of a census form -- but --- read the

I think Michigan records are a bit pricey. Maybe $12.00? Manistique is in
Schoolcraft County in the Upper Peninsula.
See if their MiGenweb or ALHN page (not sure which they have if any) has
someone doing lookups, or if they might have these records on their site.
Or in the MI archives.
If that doesn't help, if you care close to a Family history library. Many
of the early Michigan records were filmed. I have never done research in
Schoolcraft county, but they might be on film thru the LDS church. Wor

I am forwarding the usual information-filled column by Gordon Watts.
There is so much going on -- it is nice to pack it into one column.
Above all -- Remember the YES reply to Question 53 on the long
census forms and Question #8 on the short form. It is nice to see
the complete date of birth which is missing from the 1911 -- I have
transcribed many pages so know only month, year and age was given.

Hi Bill,
For the period you are researching the records of births, marriages and
deaths are now online at www.ancestry.ca
You can view actual records of births and deaths but marriages are an index

I would imagine you would be able to find the marriage for John and
Catherine on this site - you never know!
Someone on the list might do a lookup for you if they have access to
Canadian Ancestry records. Unfortunately I do not so I cannot help
