1. [Can-Ont-Carleton] Help with Ontario Land Grant [1]
Hello I found all of the necessary information to locate land granted to my 2nd great grandfather ALEXANDER PETERKIN in Gloucester in October of 1849. I got the information from a Ontario Land Grant index at the Family History Center. When I went to my genealogical library here in British Columbia with the info they just handed me a book and said to look it up. There was no one there to tell me HOW to look it up. I did my best but just couldn't figure it out. I have the Date ID, Lot number, Concession num

3. Re: [Can-Ont-Carleton] Help with Ontario Land Grant [1]
Thanks Jeannie I found the email address on the Ontario Archives site and have written to them. I hope they will copy and mail the things to me as I have all the information they would need to find it. If not I'll hire a researcher again I guess. I do have some others I'd like to get a hold of as well. After Bill S-13 has had Second Reading, it will be sent to the Committee stage, with Ontario having five appointees to the main committee -- plus Walt Lastewka as chai

Shirley - it has been a really really long time since I did this, but you do have to send away for the information. I went online to the FamilySearch website of the LDS Church and went to research outlines and found the one for Ontario - here is where it tells you what to do: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/rg/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Aid=&Gid=&Lid=&Sid=&Did=&Juris1=&Event=&Year=&Gloss=&Sub=&Tab=&Entry=&Guide=Ontario.ASP You will need to order the original record from the Ontario Archives. First debate in the House of Commons on second reading of Bill S-13 - an Act to amend the Statistics Act is on the House schedule for today (Thursday). It has also been on the schedule the past two days but has not yet made it.. Time will tell if it will make it today. Should it happen, debate should start some time after 3:00 PM Ottawa time. It will be televised on CPAC. There is at least one Bill
7. [Can-Ont-Carleton] Post 1901 Census - Another Court Action [1]
Please forward to Newfoundland-Labrador list Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca ========= Greetings All. With all our petitions, letters and email seeking to regain public access to Historic Census records it is felt that the greatest factor in the eventual release, on 24 January 2003, of the 1906 Census of the North-Western Provinces was our Legal Action instituted on behalf of eleven plaintiffs from across Canada. Even though that Action did not actually make it before a Judge, the effect

To all who desire release of the 1911 and later census records:- To date, Bill S-13 "to amend the Privacy Act", has travelled through the Senate and has had First Reading in the House of Commons. So far, Second Reading has been announced, but work has been done on other government bills, for example, Bill C-24 today -- and possibly tomorrow. Many researchers are filling out Access To Information forms, with full details available at this site:- http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/1911ati.htm A legal a
10. [Can-Ont-Carleton] Post 1901 Census -- Debate of Bill S-13 [1]
Greetings All. Even though Bill S-13 - an Act to amend the Statistics Act - was on the schedule for second debate in the House of Commons three days of this past week, it did not happen. The projected schedule for the coming week does not show Bill S-13 as being included. I stand to be corrected, but it begins to look as if no further action on Bill S-13 will happen before Parliament recesses for the summer. If so, this gives us more time to convince our Parliamentarians of the need for amendments to

13. Re: [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] James Craig 1875 Carleton Place ONT Canada [1]
Hello My grandmother was Bertha Craig - in the Fitzroy Harbour area of Carleton County. I checked my info - but I do not have a Craig m. to a Coffin - or to a Meehan I live in Almonte, Ontario - close to Carleton Place. One question/suggestion - "Blance Meeham" - Blance is unusual - might it be Blanche - and might it be Meehan with an 'n' at the end rather than an 'm' ? James and Blanche are crossing the border in 1919 from Winnipeg back to Iron River. He states that his mother, Mrs. Janet Walsh, is living in Winnipeg, Manitoba at that time. His father William Wright Craig, who was born abt 1821 in Scotland, died in Brockville, Leeds, Ontario on 19 Dec 1881 at age 60. He belonged to the Church of Scotland. This family can be found in the 1881 Brockville, Leeds, Canada census as (surnamed Craig): William, 60, born Scotland Janet, 32, born Quebec William W., 20, bor

Hi Carol and Annette: If I'm not mistaken, you can get to the lists of Protestants and Catholics from my page at www.bytown.net/wexlist.htm . This was a list of potential emigrants from Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow, compiled by a Quaker who ran a timber-from-Canada, passengers-to-Canada operation from Northern Wexford. It's not clear if all these folks came to Canada, although many of them did end up in Eastern Ontario, independently, and some of them worked on the Rideau Canal here, but not as a grou
